Hi, My name is John and I am new to this board. I would like to share what is going to with me, just in case someone could offer me advice. Like everyone else on this board, I have Vertigo spells.

What I have: I have a constant pressure feeling in the left ear that makes it difficult to concentrate, makes me irritable and, by itself, can make me dizzy. Occasionally, the ear pressure goes away and I am perfectly fine. If I have the ear pressure and I either move my head to fast, or go into a high pressure place (high building or plane are examples), I have the Vertigo spells (dizziness, disorientation, headaches, sweats, nauza, etc). My ears are ultra sensative and I am bothered by wearing headphones, winds blowing on my ears, the sound of a balloon inflating. I am at the point where I have a hard time thinking and words take awhile to get from my brain to my mouth. I have severe allergies and am allergic to just about everything (ragweed, mold, dust, pets, etc). I have acid Refulx which causes me to sleep on the side with the bad ear pressed against my pillow every night

What I've done about it: I have been to 5 different doctors at my PCP's building, a ENT specialyst, an allergenist, and my dentist. The ENT specialyst did a hearing test and did a thorough job looking at my ears, including a CRT scan of my sinuses. He came to the conclusion that I just need to avoid situations that cause Vertigo and there was nothing else that could be done. My PCP explained to me that slight pressure changes and moisture from my allergies are causing hairs in my inner ear to get wet, which is causing problems with the balance transmitters in my brain. He gave me Meklzine that works while i am having Vertigo, but does not prevent it. I asked about the exercises and my PCP told me not to try it. I have had a wisdom tooth taken out, in case that would help, it didn't. I just started taking Kudzu Root to see if that helps.

What I am looking for from this board: I am trying to prevent the onset of vertigo. I know how to handle it, once i get it. I am trying to figure out how i can keep the pressure from forming in my ear and keep the hairs in my inner ear dry.

" Man, this so sounds like what I've been experiencing for the past few months. I too had ear infections as a kid, but never had problems as an adult. Then in Jan and Feb I had two really bad headcolds, and in March my left ear was plugged up; could barely hear out of it. Well this moved to my right ear, clearing up in my left, but then moved back into my left ear and took up shop. Then two weeks later or so, the dreaded Tinnitus showed up...

A few weeks after that, however, I started feeling this pressure in my left ear and had really bad sinus headaches, not to mention I developed little puffs underneath my eyes, right aboove each cheekbone. I'm thiniing, what the heck? And now since June I have had dizziness as well, it comes and goes for no aparent reason since I got off a cruise in June, so now I'm really thinking WTH? The neurologist says Mal de Debarquement, but I don't feel like my body is moving, but rather my head is ready to split open. The pressure inside my head is making me dizzy, inside my head, not in my body. Weird.

Allergies? Illness? Insanity? Between my PCP, an ENT, and the neuroologist, no one can figure it out. Oh, and my CT scan is negative (whatever that means..., I guess it means no tumor). But so much more could be going on and all I hit are dead ends. I just don't understand. "

" I haven't given an update for awhile, so here i go. The Zyrtek has been working better than the Clariton for me, so i am staying on it. I am not allergic to dairy or nickel, as far as food. After two weeks, not much of a change. I believe the detoxing i was feeling was because of the medication change. I am back to eating dairy.

I had an MRI done on my brain. They found nothing wrong with the brain, but found that i have Sinusitis. I made an appointment with my ENT to talk about it. Vertigo is a symptom of Sinusitis.

My drainage does not come out of my nose. It seems to go down my throat "

" I don't have sinusitis. The ENT disagreed with the neurologist. He says I have severe allergies and TMJ. My joints in my jaw is swolen all the time, causing pressure all through my face, including my ears. I have an apointment in a month with a dental surgeon to discuss TMJ. I'll know more then. I am starting allergy shots in 3 weeks "

" i don't have TMJ. I have a tight muscle that goes from my jaw to my ear. I spent the last two days rubbing out the muscle and using ice packs and feel a bit better. My chiropractor helped me with the diagnoses.

The only thing i have left to fix is my allergy issues. My ENT told me to get rid of my cat, but i refuse "

" As far as I know, the pressure is brought about by the fluids retained in the ear canals. The fluids are retained when we eat salty foods. So my doctor told me to avoid salty foods. "
