Hi there: I'm new here. I was diagnosed with BPPV by a neuro 10 years ago after sudden attacks of very severe vertigo. Seemed to happen out of nowhere - no illness or accident preceding it. The room seemed to be twisting to the right and I had to sit or lie down. If I was driving, I had to pull over. Had an MRI, MRA, EEG - all negative. I lived with the attacks for many years - they were annoying but not disabling. They would happen sometimes every day, sometimes I would go months and then I went years without them.
In the last three months, the dizziness seems to have come back, but it's less acute. The room isn't spinning and I don't feel like I'm going to fall down - just have a sense of disequilibrium. The spells while less acute last much longer - hours and they seem to come day after day. I saw my GP and an opthamologist (for visual sensations I'd been having which she diagnosed as opthalmic migraines) but both said I am healthy. One strange thing I have noticed is that while there is definitely a positional component to the dizziness, there seems to be an emotional one as well. If I am very upset, anxious or some other strong emotion comes on, I notice it either makes me dizzy or makes it worse. For example, I was having a big fight with my husband the other day and during the fight I started getting dizzy. I often start to feel dizzy while giving presentations at work or speaking to an important superior - sometimes it happens when I laugh hard! Just now, I was started by a knock at the door and that startling sensation brought it on. I am seeing a neuro on Friday. I am quite worried about the new presenation of my dizziness. I am also occassionally seeing bright pinpoints of light in my peripheral vision. The opthamologist noted nothing at my last exam, but I am still worried. Does any of the dizziness strike a cord with anyone? Thanks much - Joanne Posted on 02/18/08, 01:02 pm |

When my husband has these dizzy spells sometimes it is associated with shaking all over. I haven't heard of anyone with this. Has anyone out there?

This sounds just like what I'm experiencing. What worries me is that I have a new symptom. I have always had positional vertigo where when I was lying down and my head was in a certain position, it would trigger the spins. Now, I have the sensation of vertigo while I am walking. It doesn't actually go to a full spin, but it's like I feel like it's going to happen. This worries me. Anybody else have this symptom? Any suggestions? I scheduled for another Epley session tomorrow. I've had all the testing and been diagnosed with BPPV, but I keep thinking what if I have a brain tumor...what if it has become MS.

My husband has all the types of spins. Today we discovered that 3 of the pills he is taking can cause dizziness, that type of spin is tolerable but one pill that his urologist just doubled a month ago is causing such dizziness that if he is standing someone better be near him or he would fall. So we are cutting the last pill down to half the amount he was taking previously. I hope this does the trick. Have you checked your pills?

hello all, I am new to this group and wanted to share my experiences of dizziness.
I have suffered with dizzy spells resulting in vomiting and nausea since i was about 7 years old. In the last 5 years they have increased in regularity and now happen every 3 months without fail, and lasts about 5 days non stop. I have been under investigation by ENT and Neuro doctors and have been on a list of drugs as long as my arm. I currently take domperidone supositories and Cyclazine to help with the vomiting, but it doenst make the spinning go away. Oh and I can only turn left whilst having these episodes which my boyfriend finds hilarious! It really affects my working life and am currently under investigation prior to beginning my new job. Is there anybody here who has had similar experiences???

This is a part of your peripheral and autonomic nervous system not getting the correct signals.
Go to this site and ask a question there - you will get a lot of responses. There are also photos and other useful links on the page. http://dailystrength.org/groups/ne... :)

Yes, I feel this way too. I have had dizziness for 7 years off and on. Was told it was everything, mostly I got the bppv diagnosis until recently, this new ENT sent me to a neurologist and diagnosed me with vestibular or "silent migraines". You can have these with no headache but you can get severe dizziness. I am in yet another episode as I type this.

This is an autonomic Dysautonomia nerve system response.... It's typical after a car accident and/or is hereditary.
Go check out the "autonomic" topics on the neuropathy group. http://dailystrength.org/groups/ne... :)
