I have been suffereing with Vertigo,(whirling spin)for the last year and a half. I always seemed to have it in the left ear and this time 8 weeks ago I have it in both ears. I can't function! I am a registered nurse and can't even hang an IV without falling backwards and not to mention riding in an elevator, turning in bed, laying down, getting out of bed, taking a shower and so on makes me so dizzy and off balance. I was told I have BPPV and recently have had the ENG test. I am still waiting for results. How do people function with this condition and take care of things in life. I have a husband and 2 small children. This is a scary thing for me and I don't even feel safe working. I have been off for a month now. Does this ever end?

Yes, I have been taking Meclizine and Valium. The vertigo calms down but, the balance is worse. I also get headaches a lot. My blood pressure went up to 170/110 so, I have been put on Diovan 160mg and HCTZ 25mg over a month ago. The blood pressure is better now. The ENT called today and said nothing is wrong with the inner ears. My ENG test came back normal. I don't know what to do and I work in the medical field. I have been told that vetigo is very hard to treat and it is just something you have to live with. I know that Vertigo is a symptom of some problem. What is the problem? I will keep trying to figure this out.

I developed BPPV from a fall in my doctors office. Went for all kinds of treatment. Helped for about three months then the dizziness returned, but not as bad as it was before the epley manuveurs. For me the dizziness has gotten somewhat better and yet different in nature. Hope you can find some peace with this disorder of the inner ear.

an eng may not pick up bppv which is benign positional vertigo. it usually is dizziness more on one side than the other with a feeling of fullness in the ear of the side that is worse.
you can cut back on salt and increase fluids especially water. you can try brandt daroff exercises which are specifically designed for bppv.

Hi, consider checking and finding out if there is an ENT that specializes in balance and dizziness. I am seeing someone at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, you might want to see if there is one in your area.

I had BPPV and I saw a Audiological Physician who did a Epley manoeuvre on me and moved the crystals back into place. It worked straight away, the only problem is I have chronic vertigo because of a inner problem from years ago.I have been told to keep moving so my brain can compensate for the problem.I don't take any medication because it makes my vertigo worse.
