Amitriptyline

Has anyone taken amitriptyline for treating dizziness and vertigo? I have just been prescribed 10mg dose after having an unpleasent reaction to nortriptyline, the nortriptyline helped my head for the first two days but then i got shakey legs and chest pain whilst on it so stopped taking it as the chest pain kept me awake at night and scared the hell out of me.
I took one 25mg of amitriptyline once in the past and that left me feeling very spaced out durung the day, so much so that i was kind of unaware of what was going on so I am now a little concerned as to how the 10mg dose will effect me.

" I was on Amitryptiline for about 2 years for the vertigo, but it didn't seem to help me much. Even though I was only on 10mg, it made me feel spacey. My ENT took me off of it about 8 months. I hope it works for you though "

" I take Amitryptilline but I take it for pain. It doesn't help my dizziness. I take Meclizine for dizziness (or over-the-counter Bonine.) This gives me much more relief (50-100mg/day.)

Hugs~

" yes someone had said meclizine was good for dizziness, I am wondering whether to try this instead of the amitriptyline because its side effects are likely to be less "

" The two are related, actually I think I read that the nortryptaline converts to amitryptyaline during metabolism. I could be wrong.
I am am 25mg nortryptaline and swear it does nothing, good or bad.
Mecklazine put me to sleep. I still was spinning, even fell out of bed once. But at least I slept :-) "

" Meclinzine or Antivert didn't help me, at all. However, Valium works really well. "
