Is there anyone here that has had to go on disability because they can not work anymore? If so how did you go about it and is the pay worth it?

" I am on disability for fibromyalgia. The vertigo for me is only recent..doesn't seem to be leaving either..just when I think it is going it starts up again.
If you need basic info on disability you can read that section in the FIBRO WELCOME PACKAGE
the rules are the same no matter what you have...

I dont know what you consider "worth it." the maximum for SSDi is about $2000 a month now..It is taxed at a different rate so it is worth more and if you paid in it is your money so why not take it?

" I made 40K a year and get 10K a year SSDi, half taxed. I prefer entry level scum jobs rather than SSD, but no one will have me on a job. "

" I am on disability for Lupus, and the vertigo is new (7 yrs) and I hate it. I don't know how I would perform on any job with all that I have going on. What concerns me now is driving. I obviously don't drive when I am having episodes but it just dawned on me the other day, what IF I did have one in the car? I may start a new thread on that one.

Sorry to get sidetracked. If you cannot work, you cannot work. Somehow we adjust our lives and we do manage. SSD does not have to be a bad thing and we still need to feel good about who we are. What we "Do" does not represent who we are or how wonderful and worthy we are:):) We have a disability, we are not the disability.
Best wishes..

" Hi Ella
I think somewhere here we did discuss the driving issue..I havent driven since this vertigo started for me i November..It comes and goes but I dont know when it will appear..I was doing better..then it came back and then it went.. today I was at my granddaughters birthday party.. it was really fun with ten 3 and 4 years olds having a great time..me too..then suddenly I started spinning UGH!
Came home and pretty much rested the remainer of the day..but I hate that I cant go anywhere alone.. feel like I AM THE ONE that needs a babysitter!
I wish I could work but I know I cant.. now it is even worse..

" Hi, I'm new to this site but I thought I give you my 2 cents. I receive SSI for Vertigo and Depression. I'm only 29.I suggest you go to your near social security office and apply for disability if your condition prevents you from working. I personaly love to working but I can't do it, not like this. But what I get helps me a lot. I hope this helps. "

" I've been on State disability for 6mo and get $2500 a month (made $52,00 a year before). In 6 mo. I'll have to apply for SSDI. I can't focus enough to do the computer work I did before. "

" Hi Bonnielo,
I am new to this site, but have had vertigo almost non-stop for more than 4 years. My ENT says, after many tests, that I have permanent damage to my right inner ear. My work as an architect involves lots of time on the computer, and I get so sick doing it that I can only work for 1-2 hours at a time, with a max of 4 hours a day, sometimes less. How did you go about getting State Disability? I don't see how I can survive on disability with a child to raise unless I find some other source of income. What are the State and SSDI rules, or where can I find them? "
