Has anyone found a safe way to lose weight when you have diverticulosis? I don't want any flare ups. Just need to lose some LBs.

" Follow a high fiber diet. You should be doing that anyway. Stay away from fried foods and meat and dairy fats. They will just irritate you anyway. Green salads skipping the tomatoes, cucumber, and peppers. Go easy on the dressing too. Nothing creamy. Switch from white to brown. Eat brown rice instead of white. Wheat bread instead of white or rye. Cut down on the sugar. Good luck.

" JMM777 I have been trying to lose weight for the past 2 years since "flaring up" It seems almost impossible. Fruits and veggies make me flare up and gassy, causing symptoms of flaring up. When I have fiber sometimes that can bother me and BM become painful. So find what foods don't make you feel sick and use portion control. I have to eat a lot of carb items like (crackers, breads etc) to not be sick. Good Luck "

" I think losing weight is all mental. Once you get your brain in gear, everything else follows. It make sense. We do need copius amounts of liquid. Choose the ones that have fewer calories. Again it's mental. You have to ask yourself, "do I really want to give up the better TASTING stuff?". In some cases we choose to sacrifice. I now only drink water, oj, and occasionally coffee. Does it hurt to not have a dr. pepper every day? Sometimes. But weigh the options(pun). Having had surgery really opened my eyes. Sometimes it takes something serious to motivate our MINDS to make the right decisions on behalf of our bodies. Exercise is great also. Think back to when you were in the best shape of your life...felt good didn't it. Sleep better, feel better, eat better, look better, etc. I'm getting off my soapbox now. BTW, I am also telling this to myself. "
