I am a newbie I just joined a few minutes ago. I am fairly newly diagnosed with diverticular disease. As I mentioned in my story I had part of my colon removed last year. It has taken months to recover. I had alot of illnesses right after surgery due to a compromised immune system. I find this has been life changing for me. I didn't have a chance to even adjust to the idea that I had this disease because within a couple days of diagnosis I needed surgery. I was pretty healthy up until that point. I am still struggling with my diet. I am not a huge fibre fan, which may have gotten me into trouble in the first place! I hope to make some friends and learn some stuff and help other people. Thanks for listening!

I'll listen anytime. Good luck on your
new way of eating and finding out what causes an "attack" and what not to eat! Good Luck... Sandiinut

I wanted to add on to my post, because it doesn't look like I can edit, I had a large incision (5 inches) so it wasn't done laproscopically in the end. Because of that it took longer to heal. For me any time I had a diverticulitis attack it was always associated to stressful times. That is something I have to be careful about.
Hey thank you for responding sandiinut. I hope I spelled that right!

Okay, I just got the nut thing. That's pretty funny. I have problems when I eat at KFC or McDonald's(well who doesn't right!) It starts my cramping up again. Do you mind me asking if you have problems with diverticular disease?

BeeGirl...I'm just plain lucky. Took
the advice of a dietiansian(sp) and she said to watch spicy food, no nuts, popcorn, oh corn is hard to digest..35mg's of fiber every day and heck either I'm plain dumb and don't feel it but I have had no trouble, oh the seed in tomatoes or cucumber, cataloupe, watermelon. I keep waiting for something to hit me! My first husband died of it...where the seeds get in those little pockets and get inflamed. I'm going to put you on my friends list so I can see what YOU have trouble with! Sandiinut

Hi all new member...I was diagnosed 6 years ago at 30 years of age with diverticulosis...I am currently recouping from a flare up 5 days ago...on cypro and flagyl....funny thing is, the cramping is gone, still a little tender on the left side so I now I am responding to the antibiotics...but I continue to have a low grade fever daily accompanied with naisal drainage and a low grade sore throat...Do you think this is related, or did I just get a cold or the flu at the same time. Don't really want to go in at this time since it is only day 5...any thoughts thanks...

hi, i just joined too... dealing with this lately a lot and you have my sympathy.. this sucks! i'm in the middle of an attack now myself, and it hurts like a demon. maintaining a high fiber diet has been hard for me when i'm feeling OK. It's hard to find high fiber stuff, and to get the 35-45g a day the doctor recommended it's like i have to eat whole wheat high-fiber everything, all day, just to hit the minimum...

I'm learning the fiber thing too! After 51 years, I finally have the water thing down....only I wasn't absorbing it. My dietition did a BMI test and it said I was dehydrated! I told her that was impossible because I am drinking at least 2 liters of water a day! Then she explained why exercise is important. Unless we sweat....the our blood will not absorb the water and it will just pass through our bodies. Sweating helps cleanse the blood...and in turn we stay more hydrated and our digestive track moves more smoothly! DUH! It only took me 51 years to learn that! Now I walk 20 minutes first thing in the morning and I'm now addicted. I still have to work on the fiber, but I can almost count on having a BM when I get back from my walk! Whoever thought we'd want to cheer that! LOL.....what ever it takes....I never want to have a bad attack again!
Sandiinut I'm sorry about your husband. Beegirl.....Godbless your recovery from your surgery! Keep up the good work!
