I go in for my first colonoscopy tomorrow. I start the liquid diet today and start drinking the prep later today & tonight. Not looking forward to it all, but I know I need to have this done since I just had another diverticulitis attack last week. I've heard from a lot of people that the prep is worse than the actual procedure & I will be knocked out. Any advice will be welcome on how to get thru today being on only liquids and tonight taking the prep drink. Luckily I will be drinking the small, clear Fleet stuff. I have to work all day today, but will be off tomorrow.

It is the worst part! I used a straw to bypass my taste buds. And hung out by the bathroom and watched tv to get my mind off it. Good luck!

Mine was very violant. I threw up the prep first of all and then couldn't leave the bathroom. The kicker was that I had diarrea all day before I started the prep. There wasn't anything in me when I started doing the prep.

Thanks for your replies. I made it thru fine...the prep tasted terrible, but I drank a little bit & then drank some white tea w/raspberry, then more of the prep and so on, that way wasn't too bad. They did find a polyp which he removed and said I have diverticulosis throughout my whole colon. The dr. said I need to eat more fiber & gave me a list & diet to follow. Even tho I eat fiber & drink plenty of water I guess I will have to increase the amount.

Congrats on the great results. I wish more people would take the plunge and just have it done.
Thanks for posting your results and again, congrats on the successful treatment. -Bob

I read on another board a few years ago how well psyllium husks were in helping to prevent flare ups (aka Metamucil.) I was always skeptical of that stuff until I tried it.
I haven't had to do the Cipro Flagyl routine for over two years! I started off with one capsule, three times a day. Once your system adjusts, then your can go to two caps, three times daily. At first it can make you gassy, but that goes away if you stick with it. I just have to add that this advice has changed my life. Contrary to popular belief, it's not a laxative unless you take it at higher doses. It does add bulk to your stool (along with a high fiber diet) that will naturally help keep your system clean. Just drink plenty of water. Also, I get my psyllium caps from Puritans Pride on line. (I'm not associated with them, just a customer)

Got tired of drinking it but it worked good and the taste was whatever I wanted it to be. Alot of gatorade. Good Luck

Yes, Miralax in a 64oz container of gatorade. No red or purple color drink for this test. The test was painless, you do not remember anything ever touching your behind. Even after the procedure. It never felt like someone just had a scope up your rear end.
They had calm music playing and an orange scent in the O R. They knock you out pretty fast. The worst part is the day before, drinking your face off and going to the bathroom 50 x's. I hope your diverticulosis never turns into the "itis". If you are going through any pain from it, see your doctor to have antibiotics to prevent you from having a colostomy bag. As this disease can turn into a very serious situation. My husband just had his surgery and all went well. After alot of months in pain (8)and reading about this online, he was told by his doctor that he needed to have this surgery to stop the attacks. Otherwise, the attacks would continue and infection could spread causing him to have a colostomy bag. You may live the rest of your life with little or no pain. It's when you cannot function, cannot get to work or live your life in a normal fashion. This is when it needs to be addressed asap. Good luck to you!
