So if my goal is to consume no more than 2000 calories a day but I eat 2500 and burn off 500 in a day, is that still balancing everything out so I can still lose weight and gain health? Or should I consure 2000 and exercise in addition to that without swapping exercise and calories?

" I have been wondering this same question. My guess would be the 2000 and the workout not the extra 500 but I am not positive on this one if you find out. Let me know too "

" It depends on why your calorie limit is 2000. Usually, the calorie limit you read about is a maintenance limit, for a person who is not doing extra exercise beyond daily activities. That means someone who led normal life and ate 2000 calories a day would not lose or gain weight. So if you ate 2500 and worked out 500, you would still maintain. To lose, eat the 2000 and work out 500. 2000 is pretty high for a weight-loss diet, though, unless you're a big person. I'm 5'4", and don't start losing weight until I'm eating under 1400 calories AND exercising. Hope this helps! "

" Here's the formula I use:
multiply your current weight in pounds by 10 if you are female and 11 if you are male. That will tell you how many calories you need each day.
Take that number and multiply it by .2, .3 or .4 depending on how hard you are going to exercise. .2 for light, .3 for medium .4 for hard.
Add those two numbers, and multiply them by .1 to account for digestion and body functions.
Add those three and that's what it would take just to stay where you are.
If you reduce that number by 500, you'll lose a pound a week (another pound for every 500).
I'm 5'10", I weigh 191. I start by multiplying by 11 cuz I'm a guy. When I do the math and subtract 1000 to loose two pounds a week that puts me at about 1700 calories a day.
That's an average and the plan worked very well from 243.5 pounds down to 191, but at the moment I seem to be stuck at this weight. Anyway, hope that helps. "

" I have an easier suggestion. There is a website I used to lose 80 pounds in 10 months.

What you do there is log in your height, age, weight and sex. You add the amount of weight you want to lose per week and it has to be reasonable nothing unhealthy.

Click the little save button and it will tell you without exercise, how many calories per day you can eat to lose XX amount of pounds per week. Now if you exercise then that is extra weight you can lose or a few extra calories you can eat.

its an easy website to use and follow I have been on it for almost a year now.. LOVE IT

www.thedailyplate.com its a free site and when you register go to calorie goals and put in the info I told you and VOILA.. "

" No, you must be in a 750 calorie deficit per day to lose 1.5 per week. You must be in a calorie defecit of 3,500 each 7 days to lose 1lb per week. My cal intake is 1550 or less and I must burn 2200 per day to lose 1.5 per week (my bodybugg keeps track of what I burn and I log my foods). "
