" Protein doesn't cancel out the carbs. You have to AVOID carbs as much as possible. Just eat protein = meat and foods with lots of fat and no carbs. I tried it and it worked for a while but eventually, you gotta have carbs and the weight just comes back. Its a good diet for a quick weight loss but doesn't seem possible to do for a lifetime. Hope this helps! :) "

" if you read the atkins book, it does indeed say that you can subtract the the protein content from the total carb count. i always tend to look at the "of which sugars" column on any nutrional information as these kind of the carbs are the worst. "

Yeah, even the phase 4 was too restrictive in carbs for me. My active lifestyle needs the carbs. "

" I lost about 55 pounds on the Atkins Diet a few years ago. I have researched it and found the high protein intake to be counter to a healthy diet. I have found the best diet for me is the considere by the experts the best diet and lifestyle--the Mediterranean Diet. It means changes your lifestyle of how you eat nd what you eat. I feel healthier and have been losing weight. Studies have shown that people on the Med Diet are far more likely to adopt it is a lifestyle after weight loss over folks on Low Fat or other deprivation diets. It means lots of veggies, fruits, beans, nuts, whole grain, and your fat intake comes from olive oil. You do have meat sometimes but mostly chicken and fish. I eat red meat once a month and depite being a carnevour all my life, I do not miss the meat intake that much. I couple that with Leslie Sansone's Walking program for exercise and feel good about my progess. I still struggle with portion control but I wil probably always have that challenge. I would advise Med Diet ovr Atkins as a healthier alternative. "
