I gained about 50 pounds over the past 2 years and I am looking to get it off over the next 6 months or so, but i struggle with keeping a diet, because of my busy life style. I tend to head to fast food restaurants due to being "on the go" I work 32 hours a week and go to school full time. So when I'm not at school, I'm at work. I need some good diet tips on how to stick with it and some good food choices that would be good for a person with a busy schedule like me.

" you have a diet it's fast food food. Save yourself money and plan your meals. On the weekends do your grocery shopping and prep everything immediatly. It only takes an hour or so including the shopping. Bring a weeks worth of breakfast and lunch (lunch and dinner)to work. To get 50 lbs off you need to get serious about a commitment to your health. I know I have 25 lbs to lose, but i've already lost 30. "

" NEVER go on a diet! Make a "life plan". Control your portions. Eat LOTS of fruit and veggies. One half of you dinner plate should be veggies!! Cut back on red meat (3 oz. per meal) and eat skinless chicken and turkey. Eat fish at least twice a week. Eat whole wheat pasta and bread and brown rice. I also eat soy burgers, beans (3/4 Cup serving) and have cut back on sugar. I am home most of the time, but in the summer, I prepared many meals ahead of time. I always have green salad or salad makings in the fridge. I have cut out all salty treats (Chips, etc). I ALWAYS make sure that I have a good breakfast with a protein, grain, dairy and fruit. Frozen fruit and veggies are as nutritious as fresh and are sometimes more convenient. My favourite breakfast is a smoothie made with 1/2 a banana, 6 frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup low fat yogurt, a tablespoon of protein powder all whirled in the blender served with 2 slices of whole wheat toast, 1 teaspoon margarine and a cup of coffee (black). It is so satisfying that I don't eat again till lunch.
Good luck! You can do it. I lost 3 lbs this week!!! "

" First thing - stop making excuses for a bad diet because that's likely how you got to where you are right now!

Start a food journal to be able to pinpoint where you are having big issues.

You should be eating a little something every 2.5-3 hours. It does not have to be a sit down kind of meal - it could easily be a bag of grapes or some nuts.

Busy schedules have to be searched for times when eating fits.

Never ever skip your breakfast. Start the day with a good healthy breakfast and I don't mean a bowl of fruitloops. Take the time to make a bowl or porridge or something of a good nutrional value; you won't be sorry, but it will carry you for hours into your day.

Cut out the starchy stuff. I once reached a plateau in my weight loss and at the suggestion from my trainer, I cut out ALL pasta, rice, breads/flour items, potatoes, and most sugars and sodium. It made a HUGE difference and the weight started to drop and I felt totally unbloated. I have left most of those items out of my diet to this day. Try it for a week and see how it helps how you feel.

Water - drink half your body weight in ounces of water. I am serious. It helps with weight loss. If you weigh 200lbs, drink close to 100oz of water a day.

Exercise. Cardio is good but weight training has been proven to get rid of the fat and also build up your muscle mass while also lessening your weight. You may say you don't have time, but you must make time. Even if it's only 20min every morning, it's better than nothing. The weight training is necessary because as you age, you are losing bone density. You hear about older ladies falling down and breaking their hip? I bet they did not exercise.

Everything is linked together, so no matter how busy you are, you can't let your health suffer or the only kind of busy you will be is sick in bed busy. "

" first, understand why 50lbs in 6 months is not healthy. And if you do that you will most likely gain it back because of extreme unhealthy diet failure. U got some god advice here already. Life plan is the way to go!

For time savers here are my faves... breakfast, i like turkey sausage (banquet makes good ones, microwave and eat)

for snacks I like 100 calorie packs of popcorn (if ure workplace and school have a micro this is awesome) whey protien shakes (avail at GNC just read the labels, whey is low fat, low carb but high in protien. U can blend it with fruit and milk for a more filling healthy snack)

And I usually spend my sunday cooking, a pot of turkey chili, make a couple lean chicken breasts ( i like to coat mine with egg beaters and parm cheese and pan fry them in olive oil ) And my fave if you have a over stressy day and can afford the extra calories is a trail mix, with unsalted nuts and raisins. MMM....

for some extra workout park far from your workplace and school and always take the stairs.

Hugs! You can do it! "

" Some great advice here so far...

I suggest that you keep a list of "Yes!" foods!

Download this "Personal Choice Menu" template on www.dailyfooddiary.net

This way you write down good choices you can pick up while on the run and soon you will actually be hungry and anticipate those better choices when you see that it helps keep you in line and reach your aggressive goal.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND HANG IN THERE! "

I assume because you're busy you don't workout? if so yea count calories.

I go to school and have a son so I rarely workout, but I still did a little, BUT I counted my calories and lowered them and kept at it and ate what I wanted but wiser and in smaller portions 5 times a day

I've lost 50 pounds in 4 months :) "

" I try and cut all my portions in half of what I did eat. Also it you watch what you get at the fast food places there ae some good choices such as their salads. Just go easy on the dressings. Take the top bun off the hamburger would be a start. For snacks I get rice cakes-low in calories and good with the differnt flavors they have. Also the packages snacks that are 90 calories or less are good. Good Luck "

" Great advice from just about everyone so far.
Don't set yourself up to fail----you're very busy----losing 50lb. in six months is certainly possible, but it will require a BIG commitment on your part. If you're ready to do that, go ahead--if not, you may want to set a goal that is more achievable for you. "
