I have been very active in the smoking group for almost 2 years here on DS. But I am feeling hopeless as far as my weight goes. I have gained 40 plus lbs. since I quit smoking. I have been in and out of weight watchers, currently in! I just feel so hopeless at times. The past 2 weeks I have stayed the same weight and have followed the program closely. Last night I went to the baseball game and blew it YET AGAIN. You know the "Might as well, didn't loose anyway!!!" I just feel so hopeless with myself. I am asking for support..........Thanks!

" i had a hard time losing too. I ate 1300 cals per day and worked out daily. It took a month without a single pound and then a 10lb weight loss. One thing I recommend is eatting more. Go grocery and buy your favorite veggies(not carbs-corn potatoes or peas). Go home and cut them up so they are snack size. Put them in an easily accessible container and take them out daily like you would potato chips. Snack on them all day. you won't eat as much of the other stuff and it takes awhile, but like cigarettes you'll start craving your veggies. also i recommend reading mindless eatting so you understand the behavior and triggers of eatting. " I know how u're feeling today, I've followed my program and gain a pound this week! I feel like I should give up but I'm not going to. This thing is a marathon, not a sprint, and if we have set backs we just have to keep going. I've had when I've gain since I started but I've not done what I did before and binge to spite myself just coz I lost nothing. I'm just keeping telling myself that if I give up then it's definate that nothing will happen but if I keep going at least theres a chance that things will start working again.

Just keep making small changes and small challenges and forget that u wanna lose 40 lbs. Think to urself 'I want to lose 1lb'. And if u do that 40 times u'll get there! Just accept that it'll take time and patience belief. "

" I have written other posts about this.. in case you have not read them then I'll post it again here but I'll try to be brief..

Diet programs such as the one you are on did not work for me.

To me replacing potato chips with vegies did not work either.

I had to find and research why I wanted to eat. I had to work on the emotional side of why I was eating.. for me comfort foods or just eating too late at night.

I found that replacing potato chips with carrots was just like replacing one brand of cigarettes for another.

I'm not saying carrots arn't healthy lol.. just saying when i did this.. i was not getting to the bottom of my psycological issues.. and eventually since you have not solved the craving part.. you will go back to the comfort food .. you just can't solve it that easily.

Sure use it as a baby step if you want but there again for me.. that was not solving anything..

I'd be glad to expand on my theory more if you want to message me.. or pls read some of my other posts on the subject.

Good luck with your battle and don't ever rule out other theories.. one of them just might work for you also.

Cheers, J. "

" Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking, first off. Practically all the adults I know irl are addicted to cigarettes and find it impossible to quit. It's inspiring for me to know as a teen that someone is making that decision and carrying it out. About the weight gain thing - everyone here has good advice. I don't have expertise in this specific area, but I know that to lose weight, you have to be patient and not expect fast results. And don't be too hard on yourself when you give in - just get back on track :) Good luck! "
