AKF Covering Medicare Premiums
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
The American Kidney Foundation (AKF) claims it will pay the medicare parts A & B premiums for you if you are on dialysis. However they will not pay it (?!?!) if Medicare premiums are automatically deducted from your SSDI disability check.

Has anyone out there been successful in getting AKF to pay the permiums if you are on diability? Social Security says that deducting the premiums from diability is mandatory. AKF does not talk to patients diretly and my providers have not had success in getting them to pay.

Thanks in advance,
Howard

" If you are not on SSDI they will pay. Right?

There are people on dialysis who are not on SSDI. They would be covered.

Medicare and SS are two different programs. You can be eligible for Medicare and not collect SS. "

" You are correct - if you are not on SSDI you get a bill from medicare for your premiums. If you submit that to AKF they pay your premiums.

It seems unfair since the folks who are living on a disability check need the assistance more than those with regular income (usually). "

" Do you mean the American Kidney FUND?

That a voluntary organization created to assist kidney patients and whatever they volunteer to pay is what they'll pay.

As for fairness I guess thats a matter of opinion and obviously they have theirs.

If I were running the program I would limit it to people who are without either forms of income. Are you sure that's not the case? "
