I had my new fistula done on June 6th and it has been draining a clear fluid ever since. The Doc calls it lymphus fluid. Has anyone had this?? It is annoyinig and some days I have to change the bandage at least 3-4 times a day because it gets so soaked. How long will I have to deal with this problem?? It makes my arm chapped and very sore.
Please any advice will help!!

" I'm sorry to read you are experiencing this, did you have a Radiocephalic Fistula (Wrist) or a Brachiocephalic Fistula? (elbow), i know of people who have experienced just the same thing as you, this will cease as the healing completes, i believe it's Seroma?, you will also possibly get a little swelling with this, but it seldom requires any additional treatment and will subside in time. How is your buzz or Fizz of your new Fistula?. Ed "

" So its not healing properly right?

I found that bathing any wound in saline solution, the sterile stuff you see hanging from hospital beds, helps immensely.
Its just sterile salty water. Now that I think about it you could make it yourself by boiling water and adding salt. I found this on the internet:

"The solution I use follows the recipe given me by my surgeon:

Put two cups of tap water in the microwave and bring it to rolling boil (6 to 7 minutes in my microwave)
Stir in one teaspoon of sodium chloride (I use sea salt, but the recipe says that picking salt is also acceptable)
and 1/4 teaspoon of sodium hydrogen carbonate (baking soda, sodium bicarbonate)".

To avoid confusion here you can use normal table salt and normal baking soda right from your cupboard. Add it to water brought to a rolling boil on your stove top. Just put a lid on it and let it cool. Use sterle cotton wipes you can buy at any pharmacy right off the shelf. Wash with plenty of salene solution. Use another wipe to dry and then put a new dressing on. "

I honestly feel like it's a catch 22 you could either die of dehydration or fluid overload. Take your pick!
