Is my doc right?

I have type II diabetes and have for around 16 years. Been to several doctors most were just family doctors and they were able to control my sugars with pill. Well when it got out of hand my family doc sent me to a specialist, endocrine
unit with about 6 doctors in the office. Well the doc they sent me to really isnt a doc but a PA. He has had diabetes himself for about 14 years and is on a pump. Everyone says he is even better than the docs in the office. my question is he has me on a diet that i have never been on or heard of. Breakfast, can have 56 carbs, Lunch, can have 56 carbs, Dinner, can have 56 carbs. He says NO snacks, if I do only afternoon and only proteins. He said he wanted me to eat Dinner around 6 or 7 and after that nothing in my mouth but water until the next morning. I have always been told to have 6 SMALL meals a day like breakfast, then a small snack, Lunch, then a small afternoon snack, Dinner, then a bedtime snack. Is HE right?? Has anyone been told to eat like this?

" The diabetes clinic here teaches us to eat 6 small meals a day. Breakie, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and then final snack in the evening. It has been suggested to make the last snack no later then 8 p.m. but I find that too hard. I have trouble sleeping if I have it that early. My snacks consist of something like, a 1/2 cup of fat free yogurt with same amount of cut up fresh fruit/ 4 wasa crackers with 1 oz of cheese/ 1/2 cup of 1% cottage cheese with equal amount of cut up fruit/ maybe 1 cup of fresh raw veggies like carrots and celery with a fat free dip or a small bowl of mixed salad veggies... just as an example. I use the crackers as croutons in my salads sometimes. But to answer your question, no I have never heard of anyone being told to eat like that... kathryn "

" I was told 40 carbs per meal, with a 15 carb snack once a day. I think men must be able to have more carbs. Also, I am working on losing weight too. "

" I eat 3 meals and a snack in the evening. I count carbs and calories as part of a weight reduction plan. I eat anywhere from 2-4 carbs per meal. But again it's mandatory that I lose weight, and I have been. I think each person has to take in to account, lifestyle, culture, preferences of food, etc. "

" Question is the PA T1 or T2? If he is T2 and on a pump I don't know that I would be all that comfortable with that advice AND the amount of carb. I try to stay with very low carbs each meal with none at breakfast, and spread the rest (under 30 if possible) through the rest of the day. that amount of carbs will possibly tend to put weight on if that is something that you do have a problem with, and a lot of T2's do. I find that I work best with 3 meals and two snacks and try to have nothing after the night meal, although I might have something to drink, like a diet soda.
My snacks are usually protein or nuts (almonds are low in carbs) . But as cowboy says everyone is different. My question would be what changed in your life at the time it got out of hand? Was there some upset? A change in food you were eating? Any stress? Any infection? All of those things and more can raise our BSL's If it is something that happened then things should settle down on their own. "
