Hi all. My husband is 37 y/o and an insulin dependant diabetic. He takes 2 short acting & 2 long acting injections per day along with metformin.
Since I met him he has had an extremely low sex drive and he says he just has no desire and that it takes a long time to get him in the mood. I try to be understanding but I must admit at times it's extremely difficult. I spoke with my doctor about this and she told me that impotency can be an issue with diabetic men but that sex drive has nothing to do with diabetes. There have been a few occasions when he has lost his erection which I understand can be due to circulation. Is it possible to have a lack of sex drive due to being a diabetic and if so is there anything that can be done for this? Posted on 07/17/08, 07:07 am |

YES it is possible very possible. When I was in my early 20's I experienced a loss of drive big time! High blood sugars are usually the culprit. But check the side affects of all medications he is taking... TALK to your doctor and make your doctor listen. My doctor blew me off and I was unhappy for years! Good luck, and know that as much as you are struggling with this, HE is struggling too. It was a terrible thing going through it. It was inner conflict at it's worst. I fought with myself over it so much I lost a part of me. Again talk to his doctor and make the doctor listen.

As has been said in other posts,with diabetes (actually most chronic,life altering diseases)depression is often involved.I know it can do a bad number on ones libido.

is it really because of high bs?because i have no desire what so ever to have sex.i thought it was being caused by my bs also,but now i am also being treated for depression.it has not gotten any better for me yet.hang in there though.
