We live in Eastern Washington and need help with the medical costs of Diabetes. The untreated diabetes has surfaced with poor eyesight and big sores on both feet. The local clinic has referred a surgeon that will amputate unless financing is found for some sort of bypass he mentioned. SSI hasn't come thru and it doesn't look promising. Not old enough to get medicare (56 yrs old). Didn't work enough over the years to qualify for the SSI, they say. No health insurance. No job.
I think what we need is a well placed, informed, ombudsman or social worker that can find answers sooner than later.
Any ideas out there?

" Have you tried getting in tou8ch with the American Diabetes association? they may be able to steer you in the right direction, also most hospitals will be able to get you in touch with a social worker for situations like this. "

" I would get in touch with the diabetes ed program of the nearest hospital system, especially if it is a Catholic hospital. They often have funds for emergency surgery. "
