so i have just recently noticed that my blood sugar goes down without taking insulin...heres the story
i use lantus [slow acting], and novalog [normal acting], HOWEVER, i have stopped using the lantus because i feel that my blood sugars are normal throughout my day and night...i havent talked to my doc ab this either..any comments? also, the main point of this post is that [i had to point out that i dont use slow acting insulin] i check my blood sugars regularly, and half the time i really dont need to take insulin, reason being...i check my blood sugar and say it is at 130...i eat a snow cone [not sugar free] and i also eat dinner [pork, veggie, potatos] and check it after eating and taking NO insulin, and i get a blood sugar level of 101. why would it go down without taking any insulin...maybe im just not understanding diabetes... another instance, i check my blood sugar before going to work its at 150...drive to work and eat [we'll say mini-muffins or a pop tart] when i get to work i check my blood sugar again and it is at 105... i am very confused and yes i have checked my one touch and it works fine... what could the reason be? stress? excersize? has any one ever dealt with this? Well, at least I'm not alone although mine is not that dramatic. It happens sporadically for a few weeks and then it stops. I'll have a period of perfect bgs and then I'll have a period of lows. I can't connect it to anything. Oh well, it's always interesting.

Maamgrey,
Dawn phenom is also connected to your bg and liver's glucose production in response to lows. You might try to test at 3 am when you notice the highs in the morning. See if your bg is dorpping (even slightly) in the middle of the night. That's when your liver starts to produce glucose and causes the sporadic highs in the morning. You can also try to have a little heavier snack in the evening before bed. Something complex like PBJ, or yogurt and pretzels. This will keep your bg up through the night. Lizzie,I know we are human, and unexplained numbers are just what they are. But I feel a lot safer from the risks of complications w/my blood sugars 100-140. I have started to get some complications so the 130-170 (A1c would be around 6.7) just wasn't cutting it for me, but everyone's different.

If you just got diabetes, then you could still be getting insulin from your pancreas (it's called the "honeymoon period") I had to take very little insulin for a few months. If you've had it for a while, then that's probably not it though. If that's the case, I would talk to my doctor if I were you.
