I was in the DCCT and am currently in EDIC. Anyone else? Those were the good old days(DCCT). We proved that intensive treatment led to fewer complications especially of the kidneys and eyes. Now the way your doctor treats your diabetes comes directly from our findings. Without the DCCT, most of us would be dropping tablets into test tubes with urine in them and taking one or two injections to control your whole day.

" DCCT - Diabetes Control and Complications Trial. The DCCT investigated whether intensive therapy such as keeping your blood sugar as close to normal as possible would help prevent complications. Before the DCCT, we did not actually know the answer to that question. The DCCT conclusively proved that, yes, tight control helps prevent complications especially in the kidneys and the eyes. EDIC is a much less funded continuation of the DCCT. The DCCT was conducted in the US and Cananda. Google the DCCT for more information. Sorry I didn't explain that before. Without the DCCT insurance would not cover blood testing, pumps, or other tools for controlling diabetes at least in the US that is. "
