I still crave sweets, even after being diabetic for 27 years. Have you tried the hershey sugar free products? I have found that these, and the Russell Stover sugar free products are really good for chocolate cravings.

Yep. Definitely. I think the current advice is not to eat 'diabetic' or sugar free products as these have sweeteners which can be just as bad for you as sugar, but to eat regular chocolate in moderation. But the moderation is the hard part! I have had terrible troubles with this and am still struggling to know what exactly is a healthy diet and to manage to eat it. Feel free to send me a message if you need to.

I agree that the moderation part would be great, if I could eat in moderation. When I first became diabetic, sugar free sweeets were few and far between. Over the years they have gotten better, although I would much rather eat the regular Reese's cups lol.

I have really been struggling with this lately! I crave things that have white flour and sugar. Cookies, muffins, cake, pretzels etc. Of course the worst things for my blood sugar/weight. I think it is normal to crave "forbidden" or special foods. Also, I think women tend to have these cravings more often, than men. It has been studied and girls tend to crave sugars, while men crave more protein rich foods (Steak, pizza and lasagna were the three big winners in the study I read). SO it is probably a combo of both mental and physical issues. You are not alone!

I don't think I crave things more than other people. If I really really want something, I will build it into my diet, and move on. I don't deprive myself and don't really have much of a problem...
Except during finals week...but I think that is the college student in me not the diabetic. Insulin use DOUBLES during finals. lol

i think when you deny yourself something binges can occur ....we're diabetics not constant dieters.....if you have to have a particular food just counter it with the correct dosage of insulin, and be healthy don't give in all of the time...

I just love chocolate,I have been diabetic for 15 years and have very rarely deprived myself of it, I think as long as you only have a little and use your insulin accordingly then its ok, when I was only having 2 injections a day it was dreadful but with the quick acting type you can adjust it easier. I dont eat the special diabetic sweets as they are not good for you, its better to have a small amount of the real thing.
