The Pump

I would like to hear from people who are using the pump. I think there is more than one pump, honestly I don't know much about the pump. I've been a diabetic for over 20 years now and am very frustrated lately cuz I can never seem to get the blood sugar under control!!! no matter what I do!!! I need to hear from people, do you recommend it? has it worked for you? is it better than insulin shots? I am currently on lantus at night and humalog on a sliding scale and it's not working lately. Please let me know your recommendations, how does it work do you need to wear all the time? I really would appreciate any comments, recommendations

" My son started using the pump last june. Its been great for him. We had a lot of trouble with out of control numbers before. We still get higher numbers sometimes but its usually easier to fix. Phillip often forgets to bolus for meals when he's away from home. Its much easier to fix things like this on the pump. It is a lot more work in some ways, but much easier in others. "

" I have been diabetic for 16 years now and was recently placed on an insulin pump because the shots were not working for me anymore. In the span of 2 months, my a1c level went from 9.2 down to 6.9 and my blood sugars have never been so well controlled. Do I recommend it...DEFINITELY! There are several pump options available to you, so speak to your doctor. I have the OmniPod and love it because I didn't want to deal with the tubing associated with other pumps available. You can wear it anywhere you want for 3 days, and then you apply another one. Hope this helped. "

" I also very much am in favor of the pump. I have been on it for almost 8 years now and I can say my life would probably be alot different now if I was still on shots. Your dr. will put settings on it for how much insulin it will give you automatically every hour depending on your carb ratio, and with my pump when I eat all I need to do is enter my bg and how many carbs I'm eating and it gives me exactly the amt. I need. You do wear it all the time but trust me, you def. get used to it. Of course I am used to it now that its been attached to me for 8 years, but it felt a part of me weeks after I first got it. I definately recommend talking to your dr. about this! "

" I would definitely look into the OmniPod like Lindsay29 is on. I am currently looking into it and I am on the Medtronic MiniMed Paradigm pump right now. The pump is definitely better than shots, but the OmniPod sounds even better!! I am asking my Dr to sign the prescription next week. :) The website is:

" The pump is pretty good, but unfortunately it is still like a wood burning stove compared to a thrermostatic controlled precision "normal" person's pancreas in terms of response to blood sugar. "

" I have had minimed pump for 8 years now and I love it. It does require work at the beginning but after time it gets much easier. I have been diabetic for 26 years. I have also taken lantus, it did not work for me either. "
