My mother has been a diabetic for 39 years and in reasonably good health. This morning my father had to call an ambulance because she went into a coma with a blood sugar of 18. Luckily she woke up and was sent home after her body temp went back up (it dropped to about 91 degrees). Being a diabetic for 28 years myself, this is just an awful reminder just how careful we need to be.

" Sorry about your mum, how scary, I wonder how that happened,I always prefer to keep myself on the low side as I hate being high but sometimes it can be quite scary particularly during the night, didnt she gat any symptoms at all? I rely on having the symptoms but obviously you cant always do that, I hope shes ok now, but shes going to be worried about it happening again.

" Yeah, I personally like to be a little on the high side when I go to bed -- I have been known not to wake up until I am in the middle of a seizure. I guess she just did not wake up with symptoms last night, which is really unusual for her. She was very tired when she got home, but is feelong better than she did this morning.

" Yes this is a very dangerous illness, and you have to be so careful when going places and also when you're home alone. I know that was pretty scarey for you, but do you know what was her BS count at that time, was it pretty high or low? I can't say whether I would like to be on the high side or low. When I go to bed and my sugar is about 100, that's too low for me, cause when I go to sleep I will wake up later on with a count of 40, and that's scary too. So I try to keep it at least above 140 - 160. I hope that she's feeling better now, and thank God that you were there for her. (dede) "
