When I wanted to find out whether I was depressed or not I also didn't want to alamn anyone straight away.
I went onto a search engine and looked up symptoms of what kind of depression I thought I could be. Sometimes they have online tests you can do where you answer multiple choice questions or sometimes they just list what characteristics are found in each disorder. If you find out you are suffering from depression of any kind you really need to go to a doctor. They can give you options like councelling or going on anti-depressants. There are even self help books but all of these would be more useful when you definatly know what you're suffering from and the best person to tell you that is a doctor. Best of luck xxxx

Im' the same way as you...I want to know if Im actually depressed or whatever is wrong with my head but I don't want my parents to know either. Good on you though for being brave and actually thinking about getting help. You can always go to your doctor or a walk in clinic doctor and see what they have to say. They can't tell your parents anything. The internet thing is also good but thats nothign concrete. Also, if you're leaving for college you could find a doctor wherever you're going that your parents don't know and talk to them. Whatever you do good luck. Stay strong.

Go to your doctor and tell him you would like to talk to someone to see if you have these disorders. Then, you'll have doctor-patient confidentiality. Please don't put it on the back burner, because once you go to college you're gonna have a lot of other stuff to do. Get it straightened out now, while you've still got some free time! haha so I hope this helps, and I hope you get some help :]

At first I didn't know what was wrong with me either. I did a lot of research on the internet and I took some of those online quizzes. If you find out you are depressed, you really should try to get treatment of some sort.
And about your parents, I know you don't want to worry them but shouldn't you at least try to tell them. I'd imagine they'd want to know. Besides, if you are depressed, they can help you get treatment. But mostly, I told my parents because I was tired of the lies. The lies were eating me up. I felt like a fake. If you really don't want to tell them, tell someone. A friend, adult, relative, anyone. It's better to have someone to confide in.

I tried to do what you did, and hid all my shit in my mind. I got more depressed as time went on, until i exploded and got put in a mental hospital. Even if you think telling someone may ruin your life, it's better to tell someone and get help to get on with your life instead of hiding it and everything getting worse.
