My son's depression

I need some help as a mom for my 16 yr old son. He has been getting progressive worse for a year now. He had been seeing a teen therapist and then refused to go. He doesn't see himself as having a problem, so he doesn't understand why we keep bugging him about it. He is failing school, doesn't hang out with his friends anymore, always sits alone in his room (usually in the dark), hardly talks to me or his family and doesn't seem to enjoy anything that he did before. He is a vegan, so he barely eats and even to ask him to take medication is totally out of the question. What can I do to get him to acknowledge he has a problem and want to get help? I am totally depressed myself about this whole situation as he is my life and I love him very much.

" He has to see that he has a problem. We can't really make him acknowledge it. Sometimes, a person has to hit rock bottom before they realize they have a problem. All we can do for now is be patient and stay by his side. Don't make him do stuff he doesn't want to do or that could make it much worse. Just talk to him as you normally would and hope it passes. If you want, though, you could call up one of his friends, invite them over and try to have him do something with that friend. "

" well he sure sounds a lot like me, although my parents wont let me see a therapist or get me medications. He is lucky to have you as a mother, And like Vincent said, we cant make him see that he has a problem. Wish there was more I could do to help "
