My sister, Daisy has five kids with a man that is an alcoholic. They have been together for 14 yrs. She recently got scared of him in one of his drunkin rages and called the cops. She told the cops that she wanted out of the relationship, that she was very scared of him and wanted some mental help. They took her and the kids to a local shelter where she decided to stay for only two days before going home. She then was so paranoid and anxious that she wouldnt even want to leave the house. She stopped eatting, stopped talking, stopped sleeping-everything. This past Friday she got a knife and tried stabbing herself but my mom grabbed her and the knife. They fought eachother for about 10 minutes and finally my mom got the knife. In the meantime her kids are watching it all. She took my sister outside to cool down and a man assisted my mom with help. We had a good friend come over and stay with my sister that night. The next day I called the lady from the shelter and asked for her to go over there and see what was going on. She then made some calls and got her into a mental hospital four hrs away.
We have called her several times and she wont come to the phone to talk. She isnt responding to anyone, including the staff.
She wont sign a consent form for my mom, who has the five kids to get emergency assistance and their medicaid. Our hands are tied and it sucks feeling this helpless. All we can do is wait. I just dont want the state to take the kids. Please pray for us.

" I hope things get better. I live with an alcoholic and a depressed person and it is so hard. He has driven me crazy at times and I know, because of some medicine they had me on for a back injury, that he drove me to slash my wrists. I made a promise to myself and to him to be there and sometimes I don't know how I am doing it. Good luck, Is there a way your mom and go obtain emergency custody of the children until she is released?? "

" My mom wants to but the state says that my mom needs power off attorney and my sister has to sign those papers. My sister at this point isnt signing anything and wont talk to us by phone. We are so lost and new to this type of situation. We dont want the state taking the kids and my mom needs dfs assistance to get started with food and insurance or so that she can move here with me till she can get on her ft. "
