Crisis Center topics?

I was just reading some posts and noticed these are "crisis center topics". So I am wondering, is there a qualified crisis counselor on board around here? If not, that really worries me for some people.

Sure we can offer support and words of advice for those who come in suicidal or as a threat to theirself or someone else in some way, but we are not qualified to handle crisis situations with anyone who is unstable. When it comes to crisis, we need to be very careful what we say. We should encourage the individual to contact a crisis line or go to their nearest ER for an evaluation. It just scares me to know we have a Crisis Center forum here and that we are the people offering the help. I know when I am in crisis, no message board is going to help me. I think that's why so many people come around and threaten suicide so often. It might not be because one is attention seeking, but rather, because this is not a crisis center...not exactly the place a person in danger needs to be. Maybe I'm being too critical, I don't know, but it very much worries me for those who come in real crisis.

I used to have a crisis chat room, but I also had the ability to gather all the necessary information to contact the authorities when a person threatened suicide in the room. I have even been on the phone with one particular person when the officer arrived. A serious suicide threat should be dealt with in a hospital with around the clock observation, therapy, medication, and other types of care.

Sooooo....is there a crisis counselor here? Does anyone know if those who run this site have the means to collect information and call for help?

" i have crisis intervention training, but doing it online, especially without the ability to get the info necessary to get someone immediate help is just too difficult. i don't think it would be a bad idea to be able to somehow get that info if necessary. i know it's supposed to be anonymous and stuff, but i think of one's safety first. even at work when we have a crisis with a client, they may want that info kept confidential and want us to do nothing, but that just can't happen in that situation. " That's how I feel, Val. When it comes to the safety of the individual, especially their very life, I believe confidentiality should be tossed out the window in order to get that person into a safe environment. I actually had a friend I talked to on MSN who told me one night she was going to take every pill in her home to kill herself, and my main concern was luring her into my chat room so that I could get the info needed to get her help. I didn't care whether she thought it was anonymous or not because I wanted to get her out of her house and into the care of a professional. Had I told her I could get her info, she never would have entered the room and quite possibly could have taken her life that night.

I know that isn't how things work here, but when you care about another person's life, it's so hard to just sit by not knowing what is going to or has happened. I'm not just saying this as someone who doesn't have the first clue about breaking confidentiality. I myself have been taken by the cops to the hospital twice. Once, my counselor filed a petition to have me picked up, and another time, my dad filed the petition and I was karted away. I'm glad it happened, though, or I would be dead today.

So I dunno...to all those out there thinking about ending it all, PLEASE get help, professional help, and immediately! "

" Oh and by all means, I know this is an anonymous site now, and that it will remain one. I'm just speaking of my concerns. I'm aware that no one signs up for therapy when they come here. I do hope, however, that anyone in a real crisis will, before it's too late, reach out for professional help. "
