There’s going to be times in life when you feel that its best to just let go, when you think that when all else fails that you think that’s it best to just disappear… Well its not! Why give up when you worked so hard to get where you are? Life isn’t always about being better than others but to be with others… To help, to gather up and help each other during your down times… Never give up, even if you think that you’re doing the best thing possible by letting go… Letting go is not an option… To think that you are releasing yourself from others to help with what you think is causing them pain. Death is not an answer to life’s problems, Self harm is mere an illusion… It may be harder to stop but its harder to begin… That first cut is pain! The first Purge is hell… The burns are screams of pain. What is it to do when to self inflict people ask everyday? To us who stands out in the crowd of people… It’s away to run from the pain… Away for us to be rid of the harsh and cruel comments that others throw at us… But what those people who question and think that we do this all for attention… What they don’t know is the bond that we all have… Just like Soldiers… We stand united… We all help and understand each others pain… Although we wish that we could stop all the pain but we know that we can be here for each other. This is too all the wonderful DS people… Keep strength, Have faith in yourself and keep your head up! God bless you all!!

*Approximately 1% of the United States population uses physical self-injury as a way of dealing with overwhelming feelings or situations, often using it to speak when no words will come. Despite the fact that self-injury is far from rare, myths and misunderstanding surround this psychological ailment -- mistaken ideas that often result in self-harmers being treated badly by police, doctors, therapists, and emergency room personnel.
In response to society's mistaken ideas about self-harm, the American Self-Harm Information Clearinghouse was created to educate and inform medical and mental health professionals, the media, and the general public, sorting myth from fact and explaining what is known about self-harm. One of ASHIC's major projects is National Self-Injury Awareness Day. In this grassroots effort, people across the country and the world whose lives have been affected by self-injury deliver fact sheets, reports, and brochures to those who make decisions about the treatment of those who self-harm. *

" Outstanding points! Great post!
I think the biggest problem with people here at the Crisis CEnter (and it's NOT their fault) is that they/we don't have enough coping mechanisms and/or that their coping mechanisms aren't very effective. If we could somehow, someway teach both more coping mechanisms and EFFECTIVE coping mechanisms, my feeling is that there won't be so many people each week saying they are going to commit suicide. Can someone help me with this? Someone who has ideas about how you make your depression reduced to where you feel better? "

" Probably because I don't self harm, .. none of my principles seem to help self harmers much. All I can ever seem to say is "Don't do it", or "It doesn't improve anything", or "It creates more problems". I guess I just don't get it. I am leaning stongly toward staying uninvolved lately. "

" I have tried Suicide... I have looked death in the face, about a month ago I Overdosed on 45-50 Sleeping pills... I called everyone said my goodbyes and when I felt my body let go I remember seeing my daughter, my husband and their lives flash before my eyes... One tear drop fell and I was gone... My husband found me laying on the floor not breathing, no heart beat... He called 911 and started CPR.... all I remember was waking up in the hospital with tubes in my nose, my throat... Patches on my heart and forehead... Doctors told me that I was lucky but that I needed help... So I know what death is like... I used to cut, burn and purge. Please understand that Death is not the answer! MY LIFE HAS BEEN A LONG JOURNEY, BUT I KNOW I WILL SURVIVE! YOU CAN TOO!!!!

" bumblepip, I understand what you mean b/c we all agree that life can be painful. Yet, even if you don't believe in God, there's some good reasons not to commit suicide. (& if you do believe in God, the reason you don't commit suicide is pretty obvious)
The point is that everytime I really wanted to die, now I can look back and see all that I had missed if I would have died. Lostinlife, I bet feels the same way. You miss so much going before your time. "

" That's great! I am all about Self Injury Awareness. After all, I do have an orange ribbon on my left wrist...a tattoo with SIA below it. When March 1st rolls around, I try to at least do something...hand out some flyers, something. I think next time I will put something in the local newspaper about it.

Anyway, I believe that, although so many mental health professionals and other care givers have a clouded view of SI, it is becomming more understood than in recent years. When I was fifteen and hospitalized, my attending psychiatrist, even though most of the cuts were on my legs and arms, thought I was trying to kill myself. I tried to explain to him otherwise, but he just wouldn't have it. You best believe a self injurer knows how to attempt suicide, and it isn't usually by cutting their upper arms or legs. Oh well.

But yeah...things have improved somewhat over the years. They haven't improved enough, however. I read A Bright Red Scream: Self Mutilation and the Language of Pain and was very taken back by the beliefs of the S.A.F.E program, even! They don't believe in dissociation as a medical/mental health problem/diagnosis and they don't believe SI is an addiction. A person can be addicted to anything...sex, gambling, etc. It doesn't have to be chemical. A person who cuts may well experience the same symptoms as a compulsive gambler when neither can do as they wish. Not chemical, yet still an addiction of the mind that produces withdrawal like symptoms, even physical ones. Anyway, that's my disagreement with Self Abuse Finally Ends. I mean, if their methods work, WONDERFUL, but I don't agree with them on some points.

Anyway, again, I'm all about spreading awareness. "

" Great post!!

usertoao, why would you feel that is ok to say here? What is your point? How does it relate to this issue? What are you trying to do, practice being a troll? to offend people for no reason? All governments suck... I am sure yours is perfect, your country runs well and your world is perfection... with all that hatred pointed at Americans, how can you bare to even be on the same website with them?

I think that the insight shared is a positive step for alot of people. Thanks, it makes sense for us all try to keep it positive and helpful. "
