I have posted discussions on the fibromyalgia board and basically everyone says that they are not better and that their life has never been the same - people are telling me that would rather not be alive:

"i must admit that my survival instinct is only for the sake of those that love me. not for my own sake, i don't really value my quality of life, thus my life is not as important to me as i feel it is for those around me."

the only positive response has been from Snork here, but its making me believe that i am right there is no hope.... at least depression is something that you can theoretically get over.

This has ruined so much of my life already

" vow i missed the tumble last time, gotta get in here..lol...ok, i won't, i'll try to make some sense (usually futile but here it goes anyway)...

whyme - you're wrong about the power of thought. No, it won't cure you but it will help you make a lot of progress, what did you think of the 'beating suicidal tendencies' post i msgd you? you need to at least talk and discuss if you want to get better. Can always look up 'cognetive behavioural theraphy' for yourself if you think we are a bunch of idiots who don't know what they're talking about.

jloz - i can see what you're saying and i'd be completely with you normally but you're not seeing some of the frustration in context - few of us have been trying to help with positive thinking but whyme doesn't seem interested in discussing any of this but just trying to 'prove' that suicide is the answer! Not very healthy on a depression board! There was a bit of attempted humor earlier to lighten up the place, might seem inappropriate for such a serious topic but does help with the frustration. "

And dont DARE tell me i'm patronising anybody when you sit and say 'come on your 19 you people dont know it all' are you being ageist, patronising.. yes i think so. And did you bother to ask how my mum's strategies have helped me? NO, so once again, if you dont know, dont comment! "

" There is a well documented link between fibro and depression.
Until very recently there was a lot of debate over the existence of fibro as a legitimate illness.
Some MD's believed fibro was simply a low tolerance for any type of discomfort.
Some believed it was an actual neurological disorder

Controvery continues but fibro is gaining more and more exceptance in the medical community.

The fact remains that there is no "objective" test to diagnos fibromyalgia and the most effective treatment is anti depressant medication.

I can tell you that for many years I had all the subjective symptoms of fibro. Within two months of starting an anti depressant for the first time, my fibro symptoms completely disapated.

There is hope whyme but you have to each for it "

So She would tell you her life didn't begin till she got it as she had to learn things over and reaquaint herself with family etc...She is one of the most upbeat persons I know. She sleeps alot and incase ever a fire I have a key to go wake her up if need to(it's never happened though) she rights on her big chalk board what day it is so she remembers when she wakes up.She also walks with a walker due to other physical aspects but she gets herself a shower(take her sometimes up to 2 hours to get dressed) daily gets outside goes to some groups makes dinner and takescare of a cat.oh no she loves life like she always saids she savors each waking moment and if she is tired where she can't physically do something ahhh she has herself a cup of tea and watches movies.... It took her 8 years of it to get where she is today but like she saids like goes on and she ain't gonna let her get her control her life...She's very inspirational I think hope it helpsss there is hope....Hnag in there "

" Caged, you wrote 'positive thinking,' so since it's hilighted, I clicked on it. This is what came up right here, from the DS site:

Positive Thinking Add to My Treatments

(also known as Good Attitude, Happy Thoughts)
Positive thinking and a positive attitude may indeed have power. In recent years scientists studying the mind-body connection are finding that an optimistic outlook can improve more than just mental health. "
