it just seems to me that so many people post threads about killing themselves about 3 times a day.
the same people do this everyday. it makes me feel like they are immortal. like they commit suicide everyday but never die. i never know how to respond. is this a cry for help or a cry for attention? how does one decipher? Posted on 11/15/08, 02:11 pm |

yeah. there are plenty here who seem to never, EVER feel any better.....they never post anything upbeat or even remotely positive.
It gets OLD. When I first came, I felt sorry for 'em. Now I ignore them, because I don't think there;s anything anyone can say to help. ... and they never take any action to help themselves. The one thing we all need to do is remember to not allow the misery of others to drag US down with them.

you haver to take each suicide post at face value and try to help as best you can
you can never tell if it is for real or not when you have been here for a bit longer it may be easier to decide if you feel that you cant help those that post this sort of post leave well alone nobody will think any less of you

I know what you mean. I've been reading the forums and not posting for a few weeks. And I have seen a few people who, everyday, come on here and say they are going to do something drastic. They almost never do.
Maybe it's for attention, maybe somebody talks them out of it. Maybe they just decide that today isn't the day. We can never know who is serious. WE just have to hope that the ones who are serious don't get ignored because of the ones who aren't.

I agree with this post but I have to disagree as well.
Yes, people do post a lot of posts regarding suicide and contemplating taking their lives. Some of them may not be "real" but there are others that are. Others don't post at all and contemplate suicide without asking for help. Then when they do ask for help, it gets overlooked as a small minority of people think its "fake" Don't get me wrong, I agree with you here and I like this post but there are always two sides to every story

There are people who suffer from a chronic aversion to living, yet cannot bring themselves to commit suicide. They need help and understanding and support as much as people with other problems.
Some of these people are in chronic and SEVERE pain, at the brink of unbearability. Others are in "hopeless" environmental circumstances which are at the brink of unbearability. To them, suicide is a possible relief, yet they are unable to actually commit. I commend these people for not going through with it, and grant them the release they need in expressing the urge. If they need to talk about it, even "threaten" it in order to cope, so be it. They could be looking for something to keep them going, even as they express their feelings or rationale. There is NOTHING wrong with revealing an inclination to commit suicide and then NOT doing it. That is my take on it.
