" pretty sure 20mg is the STARTING dose for lexapro. have them bump up the dose...that should work....esp. since it's been working well for you. :) "

" I started on 10mg, then upped to 20mg... but my depression cycles and I can tell when I don't need it but they tell me that I shouldn't go on/off as that is like flipping a switch and flip it too many times and it just won't work anymore and every time I go off it is just a matter of time before I crash, so when I am doing good for awhile, I tapper down to 10mg and ramp back up to 20mg if it starts getting a wee too much. Doc's know I do this, it's like a compromise so I won't just stop taking them, made me promise to ramp back up if needed. (After 30+ years of depression cycles up and down, I'm usually aware of it sneaking up again. I just want the bare min. dose neccessary to take the edge off.) I've been on lexapro for a long time... years ago, I was on paxil and hit the wall, just quit working. I think my self-regulating ramping up and weaning down per my own cycles helps prevent building up a tolerance.

Of course, I could just be nuts... and of course, no one else should do this self-regulating thing without your docs approval. My doc doesn't quite approve, but he knows me. "

" actually a normal max for lexapro is 20mg any higher is a sign that drug is not working.
but in that note if you also have anxiety along with depression they can give you clazepan * dont know if i spelled that right* that is a slow acting anxiety medication that can be pared with lexapro. "

" I had the samething happen to me. Was on Lexapro for about 18 months until it just sort of stopped working the last 2 months. So my Dr. prescribed Lamictal to give it an added boost and it did work except the Lexapro killed my libido. So I switched to Effexor and kept on with the Lamictal and it has been great since then. I also take 5HTP which is a natural supplement and that has been a huge help for me also. Hope this helps you. "

" I was on 20 mg Lexapro for about a year. Worked ok I thought for about 6 months. Then I switched to Celexa mainly because I couldn't afford the Lexapro. Now i am on 60 mg Celexa which works much better than the Lexapro ever did. But everyone is different and you really need to be 100% honest with your doc and tell him/her all of this. "
