Just read this on my AOL news page.....
Golden Gate Bridge officials voted overwhelmingly Friday to hang stainless steel nets from the sides of the world-famous span in an effort to stop people from jumping to their deaths. More than 1,200 have plunged to their deaths from the span since it opened in 1937. Thirty-eight people leaped last year and 19 have jumped so far this year, according to bridge officials. ....I CANNOT believe it has taken THIS long for this action to be taken!?! It's crazy! As you say,why the heck has it taken this long!! That is a lot of people to die before thay have taken action!!!!

Those were some sad statistics, but what if every bridge, tall building, etc. had to add preventative structures to prevent suicides? If people want to commit suicide, they will find a way, an attic, etc.
(please don't bash me for sounding cold, just stating my opinion)

Golden Gate bridge is beautiful - are all those people wanting to see something beautiful on their way out? I wonder what they will do instead - I am so afraid of heights - I hyperventilate - I am amazed people jump -

They have just opened a walking bridge where I live that crosses a river. It has no netting but they made sure it was wide enough to drive rescue vehicles across it. Sharp as a marble!

its sad that it has taken this long and its even sadder for all the people that have used this beautiful bridge to end their lives.so many peoples lives have been destroyed because of this.

They have phones with suicide prevention numbers/crisis lines at each end of the bridge......
It IS true...if someone is determined they will find a way, but I just think they should have done this (built the nets) after it became obvious that this is a place to jump from....
