I was really worried about going to work today. I am almost certain now that I have strep throat. This morning my sister screwed me about in regards to the shower. She knew I had to work today. I told her last night. So just before I go into the bathroom to have my shower, she goes in and takes one. So when I do finally get into the shower, there is no hot water. Thats soooo inconsiderate!

If that were not bad enough, it is cool outside, and I was now facing having to walk to work, still sick with wet hair. So I phoned Tina, my lady boss to see if it would be OK to be an hour or so late so my hair could dry. She noticed my voice was still wanky so told me not to worry for today. She and Ben can cover it. Instead she asked if I could come in tomorrow for 2 hours, and then only if I am up to it. She will call me tomorrow to make sure.

They really are concerned over my health, and they are very aware that I am always willing to work. She pointed out that she knows I am willing to work, because on days that I am off, I often come visit them, and am always willing to step in to help if a crowd comes in and they get busy.

Tina knows I can't take pills, and a few times when she has known I was working and not feeling 100% has brought me something to make me feel better. Once when I had a soar throat she bought me a Tim Horton's Iced cappuccino. The last day I worked before taking time off, she gave me some hot tea to help with my congestion.

It really amazes me and lifts my spirits up, when I find understanding and kindness from unexpected sources. I don't know how others feel about my saying this, but I truly do believe God must have lead me to that store back in June. Where else would I have found such nice people to work for. Even so that Ben may have a bit of a temper at times, Tina's kindness and Thoughtfulness more than makes up for it.

So today, for this Thanksgiving Sunday I would like to say Thank you God for giving me such kind and understanding bosses.

Understanding and kindness can come from a family member, friend, boss, coworker, neighbour, or even a stranger. Is there anyone in particular in your life who has helped you or shown you kindness, that you are thankful for?

I'm just curious...

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

" Testy I hope you get better real soon. Talking about bosses, The month of January I had the flu and missed 4 days work and later on in the month I got a blood clot in my leg and ended up in the hospital for seven days. I had to stay out of work several days after that. I used up all my sick days and personal days. No one ever said anything to me until it was time to schedule vacation time. I was told by my boss and office manager(only 3 of us including her) that I didn't have a vacation coming this year. I am still in the hole to my boss for 34 hours. I didn't ask them to pay me and take my vacation away from me. I should have been given a choice. Besides the fact it clearly states in their set of guidelines that if someone is in the hospital, extra consideration would be given for that. I just let it go. You are lucky testy to work for such caring people. We all don't have it that good. "

" They are very understanding in many ways. Because it is part time, and a family run business with no union, I don't get paid leave of any type, but I would much rather have this kind of caring and flexibility, over paid leave any day. "

" Happy Thanksgiving to you :)

The God comment does not offend me. I agree with you. It's great that you have understanding people to work for, although you have to overlook a temper tantrum or two. (I've been there)

It's good that they recognize how good a worker you are and you def. deserved this day to rest. The sister and the shower thing, sometimes it seems non-relatives are more understanding.

Glad you got today to take it easy and tomorrow will either be a day off or a limited work day. *hugs* :)

The person whose understanding I appreciate most would be my brother b/c we've had a lot of the same experiences and I can always lean on him for advice/support and vice versa "

" The only truly sad thing in my life, is that these nice people I work for are much more caring and understanding toward me, than my own siblings who I live with. "

" Happy Thanksgiving Testy.
Glad your boss is kind and thoughtful towards you. Hope you feel better soon.
In answer to your question, it would be my special friends here on DS and the counsellor I saw a few months ago who I am truly thankful for "
