I have briefly discussed with ThePepperman what I think DS needs in order to improve our experience here and he agreed I should post my thoughts on the board so that you guys could add to/disagree with what I have suggested.
These are in no particular order of importance, just a list of ideas: 1) Higher security ie ability to lock photo albums and profiles 2) An 'appear offline' feature 3) An admin who regularily looks into the improving section and responds to queries/requests 4) An admin who really looks into abuse reports so that unecessary banning no longer occurs 5) The ability to write truly private journals, so that even the admins cant read them 6) The ability to create your own live chatroom with invitation only security 7) A 'sticky' thread in the crisis centre with relevant numbers ie suicide hotlines in different countries 8) (Something you and I discussed) A notification like you get for hugs and PM's telling you there is a new comment on your journal 9) The ability to add pictures to thread responses 10) An immediate and permanent ban for anyone who is racist or homophobic (and makes regular offensive comments) 11) A clearer TOS 12) Regular communication with admins 13) Clear explanations of where one has broken the TOS in email notifications 14) The ability to make more than one photo album Please let me know what you think and any other features you believe would be appropriate :) Posted on 07/23/08, 01:07 pm |

nanoe, that simply does not happen for us. i wish it did but for myself and others like me, we have known better than to expect ppl to be kind and open minded. it is sad and i wish it could be different but until i can express my beliefs without bashing on the subject of religion, i do not feel that any discussion of religious beliefs should be allowed as it is very offensive to myself and others that christians are ok and acceptable but us pagans, athiests, etc are not and will be bashed. this is why i feel for now the only solution is to ban all religious discussion.

Once again, address the bashers and stand by your beliefs. If your beliefs help you with your depression and such then they should be shared and you should not feel like you are being discriminated against. In a free society we have already fought and died for this right and don't see it should be taken away here.

sigh...we have tried that and it only gets worse. we do not feel safe on the main boards with that subject. so therefore, if we can't expect ppl to respect us then we shouldn't have to see or respect the beliefs of those that bash us. so best to remove the issue all together.

I don't like the idea of banning any spiritual beliefs. Unfortunately, bmoney is right about people's reactions. I am Christian. I have a friend that is Pagan. I have seen her have to deal with undeserved cruelty due to her beliefs. While we don't agree spiritually we respect each other. Many people think if you are not "their religion" you will go to some sort of hell. Many people also think since they don't have to see the people they communicate with online they can be cruel. While I believe the banning of racist and homophobic remarks is well-intentioned we can't possibly police all the cruel things people will say to one another.

We deal with undeserved cruelty for many reasons on this site. Giving advice that others think was not helpful or wrong...it really boils down to respecting each other and getting everyone to do that is impossible. But banning beliefs is not the solution, it will not stop hurtful things or the nasty people who choose to inflict pain and use things in your life against you to hurt you.

i agree it is wrong to stiffle anyone like that but we are at all times, don't you see that? if more ppl could be expected to respect us as well then it would be a moot point but i know better than to expect that. so i guess i will just continue to be offended by seeing the constant christian references and having to be careful where and when i speak up about mine or be accused of starting that war again and bashing all christians because i am not one and didn't agree with the christian viewpoint.

Also, I would like if we had *signatures* For thos of you who don't know what I mean, it's a space under each post that you can put whatever you wish (well, within reason lol). Great job GW!
