I see l pain management specialist that my primary care physician referred me to. If you look at my profile you will see I have all kinds of pain. This doctor gives me a few different things for pain. One is Norco which is the only thing that REALLY helps. The other's I take as backup only. I'm fine with it but sometimes I feel I could use more Norco when the days are really bad. but I never overtake. My doctor always checks. Oh, Just FYI, I never signed anything saying I can't get other scripts from other doctors. So anyway, my Primary physician also wanted me to see a rheumetologist I only thought I was seeing this Dr. to get some tests done. Then he asked me if I needed anything for pain and I thought about it and thought ( I might need an emergency supply of Norco just in case.) He instead ordered Vicodin which was fine. I kind of felt something tugging at me like I was being bad or something but then I thought, No. I have pain and I need this and I'm sure it's ok.
Now I'm talking to a friend of mine and she said this may be grounds for doctor shopping! She's not sure but she has me freaked! I am seeing my pain doctor tomorrow. What if he hears from the other doctor or something. (I didn't think to tell the Rheum doctor about the pain doctor. Now I don't want to!) I REALLY need all of these meds to function and I'm going on a trip. The extra pills will help me not have to call in refills from Ca. to NC. Or go to a DR. in NC, etc. Sorry this was so long but i had to put everything in here. I need to know what to do! Will I get in trouble for this? Go to jail? Should I come clean with the pain doctor or is it any of his business? i need someone who really knows about this stuff!!! Please help!!! Thanks guys. Posted on 04/17/08, 06:04 am |

I wouldn't worry about it. If you think it's a big deal, just be upfront with the first guy. Drug seekers wouldn't confess to something like that. And you're not going to jail. :) I bet your pharmacist would know, you could always ask him/her.

You won't go to jail. Your pcp will get reports from both other doctors though and once he sees you are getting pain meds from both he will probably confront you about it because the first thing he will think is that you are a drug seeker. Also, the pharmacist is supposed to call your pcp if you are given another script from another dr for another pain med to get authorization. Of course, as busy as most pharmacies are, they may not contact your dr. This does happen sometimes. But either way, your pcp will find out when he gets the reports. The best thing to do is be up front with each dr. you see to prevent you falling under the title of drug seeker and being black listed as such. If that happens, it will be very difficult to get any good pain meds that would work.
