The pain doc I work for has set me up to get another opinon. I have to go back to the surgeon that did my first back surgery. Everyone, including my pcp feels like I may have to be fused.
I have been doing alot of research on fusing and I am not sure that is something I want to do. My pain doc told me that she didn't think the epidurals would really help me. I am glad she was honest and it does save alot of money in that sense. She told me that if she give me an epidural it might last a couple of days. Why put steroids in your body if you don't have to. I see the surgeon next Thursday. I hope he has something constructive to say. But I can tell you I won't be jumping into any kind of surgery if I can help it. I guess I will wait and see. I will let you all know how it goes..keep me in your thoughts..Blessings...missourigal Posted on 04/04/08, 10:04 pm |

Hi there, I dont know what you have available in your area, but I have read about artificial discs, 2 plates and a plastic disc sets in between them, works like a joint replacement. If I had to have mine done that is what I would ask for, cause mine are in risky spots in my neck, I will likely have to endure my pain forever, But fusion is scary, my mother avoided it because she didnt want to break her back with her work. from what I have read, when they do disc surgery of any kind, the adjacent disc usually stresses and breaks down shortly afterwards, a catch 22 you might want to seriously investigate before you make any final decisions. God Bless, Hope you get some Good Medical help. Rachel

Hello. I had spinal fusion back last August and I am SO glad I did. I was getting to the point where I was in so much pain that I could barely walked. The fusion has changed my life. I would say I am 95% better. I did have to take a while off of work to heal, 5 months, but it was SO worth it. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
