Numb Toes

Over the last 3 weeks or so I have noticed that my left big toe feels numb (bit of an oxymoron...how can it 'feel' numb). It doesn't hurt, just feels like it has a sock on when I touch it. The last day or so I have started to notice the same thing with my right big toe. Just gradually feeling a little different.
What I want to know is.....is this related to my c4/5 disc problem (which I'm having replaced in a few weeks) or my Rheumatoid Arthritis, or something else altogether. I told my Rheumatologist about it when I saw her last week and she said to mention it to the surgeon. I'm noticing that my feet tend to get cold and turn a ruddy red colour. My middle toes on both feet can go numb but I think that is a Mortons Neuroma. These big toes have me worried though. What I am wondering is if anyone else has this type of problem....where numbness has been caused from a disc problem much higher up than what I would call normal. If my problem was a lumbar disc I could understand that with pressure on the sciatic nerve there might be problems with the feet. Or would it make sense that the higher the problem the more it might affect more areas?
I don't know if this makes sense to anyone.
I also have a change in the sensation on the right side of my head and ear and feel like I'm hearing a bit with cotton wool in my ear. The scalp pain and headaches have increased over time. Is this associated with C4/5 or would that have to be something higher.
I do know that it is causing my shoulder and arm numbness and pain and that I have started to not be able to carry anything, even my handbag, without almost instant heavy feeling and achiness and numbness. Hopefully this will be resolved with my disc replacement.
I just wonder if the higher and lower problems are associated with the same disc.
Sorry for my waffling. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had an experience like this.

" Oh and I also have notice that my gag reflex is super exaggerated (as opposed to just majorly exaggerated). If I wear a necklace or have a jacket that puts weight on the back of my neck I gag and feel nauseous. I've always had a nasty gag reflex but it has gotten worse over the last few months. Could this be related to the same thing? "

" Seriously doubt it is cervical. But could be lumbar. If you have DDD, then it isn't hard to imagine you have issues with it lumbar as well. I do.

Are you having an ADR or a cervical fusion, you say you are getting it replaced?

" I'm having an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with a disc replacement instead of fusion.
I probably do have some lumbar involvement but have been mainly concerned with the cervical over the last 5-6 months due to the numbness and pain up in my neck, shoulder and arm. "

" I have ddd in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar. I have numbness in both legs and feet and I know it is the lumbar causing it. I had a discetomy in Jan of 07 and it didn't work so now I have failed back syndrome, which I have 3 bulged disc in the lumbar now and the numbness in the legs and feet are getting worse. Good luck with the surgery. I don't know if the cervical is the problem, but I would guess that you have something going on in the lumbar..Blessings..missourigal "
