There are two patient advocate organization here in the United States working to promote blood clot (thrombosis) and blood clot disorder (thrombophilia) awareness. One is an organization in California run by a good friend of mine (Deb Smith). Her organization fvleiden.org has been around since 2000. Deb also is in charge of a small non-profit group called the Thrombophilia Awareness Project. She is definitely one of the pioneers in providing support and answers to us DVT/PE surivors.
The other organization is the National Alliance for Thrombosis and Thromobophilia (NATT). NATT is a national non-profit organization working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help raise awareness among the public and medical community. NATT was formed in 2003 when a small group of patients, much like yourselves, met with the CDC to form a Needs Assessment Steering Committee. This committee eventually formed NATT. NATT has been hosting free patient education seminars around the country since 2004 and also create a very nice newsletter. NATT is the only non-profit Patient group the DVT Awareness Month campaign in March and also for the upcoming U.S. Surgeon General's Call to Action to raise awareness about the symptoms and risks of DVTs.
