I am a lifer on warafin. I was wondering if anyone has experience wierd side effects like night sweats. They are getting worse and I never had any before taking the meds. The strange thing is.....I am not hot like it is a hot flash, just ringing wet with sweat.

Also, I know tiredness is a side effect but is depression? I am so tired from not sleeping b/c of the sweats but I think I am also depressed.

What do ya think? Thanks.....

" Nina,

Yes depression can be a side effect of warfarin. I'm a lifer to and have been depressed for over a year now and a few months back I went to see a psychiatist and he put me on effexor xr. It's helped some but I've also been taking valium and klonopin and just found out they can enhance depression. So I've quit those and am just taking the effexor and my bp pills and my b vitamins for my blood condition, and my statin for cholesterol. Isn't life grand!! LOL But it beats the alternative and thank God we're alive!!

" Nina,

I've been on coumadin since 2000 and really haven't had any problems (been on and off coumadin since 1992 but didn't become a lifer until 2000). I attend a lot of patient education seminars and have not heard of these type of problems related to anticoagulant usage.

With that said, I do know DVT and Pulmonary Embolism patients (both on coumadin and off coumadin) who have been affected emotionally by their clotting episode. For a lot of these folks, joining a support group or forum like dailystrength.org has helped them.

I would definitely discuss your concerns with your physician.

Regards,
Tom "

" I would say anything is possible with that drug. I had a weird reaction too but mine was muscle pain. So just because its not listed on the side effects it may still be a side effect. The depression could be all of the stuff you've went through. I was depressed but i figured it was stress not the meds. "
