" I think that it is normal and to be expected. At least that is what the nurses told us on the cardiac care wing of the hospital. "

" You can think of it this way, Your body has gone through a trauma. It needs time to recover and heal. In order to do that it shuts other things down in order to move the resources into the healing area.
Post cardiac depression is normal. I do not like it. But that is what the body needs.
Anxiety comes from self preservation. Before stents and bypass surgery, we would have died. Our bodies know that we came close to "pushing up the daisies". Thus it get anxious.
Remember that this too shall pass. It is just a phase that we all go through to some degree.
Do something delightful for yourself when you get anxious. If people tell you that you are depressed or if you become aware that you are depressed, you can take a walk in the sunshine, in a place that make you feel good. "

" The medical profession does a great job of the various interventions (surgery , medication etc) but do not alert us well to the psychological/emotional consequences of such a huge trauma. I had huge anxiety and depression last summer and blundered through it somehow with antidepressants some counseling etc. Looking back now I am still surprised and a bit angry at how little attention MDs paid to that aspect.
Cardiac rehab units should offer support groups..if they don't we all need to form them ourselves...thanjk God I found this site, it helped a lot. "

" I don't have stents but I have an ICD and had two epsoides in May - meaning my ICD fired twice because I had two sudden cardiac arrests-It's a little different than what you've gone through but the anxiety and depression are the same- it's very hard and I'm working through it - I see a therapist and have on anxiety meds and they're starting to help - it's hard but you will get through it.
Hugs
Renee "
