Stopping Heart Meds ?
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
I was DX with Heart disease 3 yrs ago at age 40.
Since then, I have been on blood thinners ( Plavix ) aspirin, cholesteral meds ( Lipitor ), ( Imdur ) to keep the arterys open and a blood pressure med that I have been on since I was 30. Also Nitro for the angina. Which I have been having alot of lately.

Finanicially I can't afford some of my meds, so something has to give. I take 13 pills a day due to me having other issues as well.
Don't want to go back to Doctor because of the cost.

My question is :
Has anyone out there just stopped their heart meds, and if so what can I expect ( Other then possibly dropping dead ) LOL

Any response would be appriciated..

" I am also in the same boat as you. I recently had a stent put in my LAD. I had extensive pain in my hip and leg, but they have recently stopped. Yesterday as I was lying down on the couch, a pain hit me that almost knocked me for a loop. It felt like they were putting the stent back in. I know that I should have went to the dr, but I have an appt next Tues for results of my stress test and prayerfully, word on this heart monitor I am wearing. If anyone can quell my fears or doubts, please let me know that this is normal. If they know of anything I can do for arterial spasms, please let me know. I am desperate to stop these pains. anne "

" Check the internet for pharmacy assistance programs in your state. Call your county or state health department. Insist generic drugs.
some drug company with offer their medications to low income patients at a low cost or free. You can find them on the internet. I would look everywhere to find help. Do not stop taking your medications. According to my doctors My doctors gave me 5 to 8 years to live and its not been 10 years. I owe my life to God and medications! Good Luck! "

" Please, do not stop any heart meds. I know that the makers of Plavix and Lipitor do have programs available to people who can not afford these meds. You can check on line to see how you would get an application. Also, check with your pharmacy to see if they have the info. My doctor has many samples and he loads me up with them everytime I see him. Call your doctor and ask for samples. (You won't be charged for the samples, as they are supplied by the pharm. co.)and lastly, not sure where you live, but I am guessing you are in the USA, if so, check out PPA, which help get your meds! Good luck, becky "

" Many pharmaceutical companies have in place free or low cost meds. Also there are web sites that are dedicated to helping with the cost, your own doctor may be a great help with samples, also you may want to ask in your area if any programs either private or state can assist you, some hospitals can assist as well with low or no cost meds for low income or hardship cases. Until my medicare part d kicked in I had the same struggle, when I went to look I found in my area many programs that got me my meds. I wish you tons of luck "

" changing from Crestor to Simvastatin caused severe cramping and numbness in my feet. All the docs said no way it must be from something else. Pharmacist said yes it's possible. I quit using statins and it's getting better.
I've been reading up on statins...lots of differing opinions. Pharm corporations and docs do get rich off our suffering so one has to wonder. I've noticed a lot of prescribing of meds is experimental and us as the guiena pigs. "let me know if you have a bad side effect" then something else til we have a pill regimen that will choke a horse. I really wonder. "
