i talked to my endocrinologist today and she told me about this procedure. they are working me up slowly to a high dosage of niacin(eventually 6000 mgs a day, i'm at 600 right now) but i had to check myself into the hospital again last week and they are afraid it will take too long to get to the proper dosage. if i have to go back to the hospital again with pain then they are going to recommend this procedure. apparently its kind of a "cholesterol targeted dialysis." i found this website about it( http://unccardiology.org/handler.c...). i was hoping to talk to somebody that has had this procedure or knows a little more about it.

WOW...you're young for all these heart probs...bad genes you inherited, eh...
I do not know much if that procedure. Sounds like it's going to filter the bad cholesterol out of your blood stream. So sorry to hear you have to go through all of this at such a young age. Take it easy..and keep up with those Doc appts... Would love to hear your updates on this procedure! Wish you well! One thing, is you might ask Dr. Orrange here on DS. She might know a little about it.

Whoa now you are a model for a different reality about heart disease . I smoked for many years but wow was I ever active infact I may have had an undiagnosed thyroid problem because I ran and jogged constantly and rarely even ever walked until age 26 . That slow down was caused by a pedestrian accident in a walk light . I recovered but never got back into sports sports and more sports like I always had ....anyhow Niacin as a form of dialysis 'interesting' I have a bad cholestrol problem which just won't change with heart meds Simvastatin and now Lopid .I visited a doctor who told me he can't seem to do anything about his own cholestrol problem and he's tried everything , he mentioned Niacin and that blew right over my head so seeing your comment here now I think I know what he was talking about , his comment was Niacin is crap , horrible stuff ...that went over my head too but I think I understand what that little blurb was that he mentioned sorta like putting two and two together.I'm definitely going to look into this further ...I hope you are able change your outcome its rare that people in good shape show up here with heart conditions . I was lucky to only have to go through angioplasty and two stents ... you don't have a zipper on your chest so that is a good sign . All the best to you and be good to yourself . I think you posted a valuable topic , its one of those need to know things for all with heart disease. I hope someone shows up here who knows about this topic for you .Good Luck and I pray for your angina releif . Cheers

I talked to one elderly lady today who took Niacin , She tried Niacin from the vitamin shelf nonprescribed and discontinued .I think if we can find ways to prevent plaque in our blood vessels and heart whether through medication or the food we eat we'll all be that much closer to long mortality maybe even early biblical length . I hope the LDL-apheresis does it for you you're too young to be going through this . best wishes
