i went to the hospital yesterday for a pre-op for surgery on a colar bone that is badly broken well, i failed the pre-op!!! the doctor came back after all those tests and said i have coronary heart disease with a blockage and mitro valve prolaspe it was a shock i had a stroke 5 years ago but have had a God sent recovery mostly just weakness on my left side
my mother died at 49 from heart disease that was over 30 yrs ago she was also a diabetic i just quit smoking 24 days ago so i am dealing with that i know i will have to change my diet i am kinda old to be changing too many things i don't do much now i also have copd and am on 02 at night any info or advice would be greatly appreciated i have to have a nuclear heart test tuesday and a lung test that was supposed to be the day of my arm surgery i take prozac for depression and it has worked for me for years i take klonopin for anxiety thank you for listening janice Posted on 10/13/07, 02:10 pm |

In some ways its better to find it out as part of a preop than to find out after a massive heart attack. Thanks for sharing your story and you are on the right track..quitting tobacco, etc Keep us posted Dr O.

I am glad to hear they caught it when they did. I wanted to quit smoking through a Smoking Cessation Program at the VA Hospital in Newington, Conn. I needed a physical and doctor's recommendation for the program. I had the physical in March of 03. Started the program the 1st Monday of April. On the 15th I underwent a stress test because my EKG of my heart was abnormal. By the 28th of April I was in the West Haven VA Hospital having 5 by-passes done. Had I not decided to quit smoking because of the death of my brother (49) I would probably be dead today. You are lucky. I hope you get the help you need to fix the problem.
