Slower metabolism after open heart surgery?
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
Hi,

I had open heart surgery in May 2007 to have a valve replaced. I feel so much better and have so much more energy, but I have since gained 20 pounds. I am shocked!

First let me say, It isn't water weight, no swelling or anything that I need to be concerned about. I have checked with a doctor. It was a very gradual weight gain, over the last two years. I have not changed a thing, still eat the same and exercise (very little) as I always did, but it is like my metabolism has slowed down.

My theory is that my heart was working so hard to do it's job before the surgery that it was constantly beating at a higher rate, therefore keeping my metabolic rate higher and burning off calories quicker. Now, it is not having to work as hard to do the same job, so it beats slower, and therefore lowers my metabolic rate.

Has anyone else had a similar reaction following heart surgery?

Just curious. Thanks
