" None of my children have it, but I do. I have never had any ill effects with mitral valve prolapse. However, precautions have to be taken in certain areas. For example, when I go to the dentist, even for just a cleaning, I have to have antibiotics before any procedure can be done. Also, after going into labor with my children, I had to be given antibiotics. My mom has it as well. Many people go their entire lives with mitral valve prolapse and never even know they had it. Good luck with your baby. "

" w/todays technology, the mitra value is usually caught eary. don't worry although they w/most likey want to keep an eye on it as it was found early. the mitra value is the easy one to repair if need be.... have faith, and try not to worry. four of five females (sisters) have this. we are all getting older and never had issues. i know its hard, its your baby, shes your would. pray and leave it in gods hands. my prayers are w/her and you. sincerely, cheryl. write if you wish. " My son was born with it. I think the main goal from the docs stand-point is to let the baby grow and get as big as possible before trying to repair the valve. I know that open heart surgery is scary for babies, but my daughter just had major open heart surgery when she was 4 months old. SHe is 6 months old, the recovery was very fast, the scar not too bad (like a cat scratch), and she is doing everything that a normal 6 month old baby would do. Just eduate yourself on signs and symtpoms of congestive heart failure and take your baby at the first sign of trouble. They would rather you bring the baby in 100 times and nothing be wrong than to not bring him in the one time that something was wrong. Also, congestive heart failure does not happen overnight or in a matter of hours. It is a slow progression and as long as you have him seen at the first sign of trouble, he will be ok. Message me if you have any questions or anything. "
