This makes me very distraught. I was looking through the discussions and when you go over a persons picture a like thing comes up telling you what support groups they are in
almost every single one that said "coming out, gay, lesbian" etc. was also in the support group for teen-depression
this shouldn't be there
teens in school are so mean
im tired of the bashing
what can i do to stop this in school?
ideas?

" It's true there's a correlation between the stresses of being LGBT and mental illnesses like depression and suicide. We all heard about the statistics..

As for stopping bashing in school, you can look at Straight-Alliance Network, whose mandate is "empowering youth activists to fight homophobia and transphobia in schools" and create one in your school.

" I agree. the sad truth is people especially teens in tyhe GLBT community in most cases suffer from depression and I think that has to do with the homophobia, gay bashing, afraid of coming out and all the stigma surrounding us. I think forming a GSA in your school can help. "

" well firstly i think the link to depression and mental illness stems from the stigma that surounds us among other homophobic behaviour.

I just finished shcool and i can tell you it helps alot if you know someone else going through the same thing. talking face to face will always be better and virtual hugs just aren't the same. so setting up the group could encourage others to come out and you could have some extra support.

but let me tell you it doesn't stop at school i got spat at the other day... "
