Beginner Questions on CODA Meetings

Hello I am new to this group. I have worked on my codependency issues for the past few years partly with a therapist and also reading books including all of Melody Beattie's that I found very helpful. It is easy to feel isolated in the process of this ,and I am seeking support from others working to have healthy relationships with themselves and others who are codependent. My codependency comes fro my upbringing though not from drug and alcohol issues in my family. I have a variety of meetings in my city area including a Beginners group as well as have seen some online and phone meetings. Id like advice on how to best choose the right meeting for myself, seek ongoing support, how others feel about having a sponsor, and experiences with in person and on phone/online meetings. Thank you very much!

" Try them all and do what feels right for you. There isn't the same fit for everyone. It depends on what "you" need for support and where you are in recovery. For me the telephone participation doesn't do it.
It just supports my advoidant tendency. Finding and keeping a sponsor takes alot of participation.
Good Luck "

" Some people like CoDA meetings and thats fine, but I first learned of codependency at the Meadows treatment Center and it showed that in treatment the codependent person(s) need feedback on all of our statements, and the CoDA groups are designed after the AA example which gives no feedback at all.

So if you have money, or some times insurance will pay for it, then you could try going to the Meadows for intensive treatment, link below;

www.TheMeadows.org

It is an expensive place and it is live-in treatment for a month or more.

I too did not get my codependency from my family over drug or alcohol abuse. My family had the codependency from distorted religious parents. My mom got the disease from her upbringing and she refuses to tell the accounts of her own upbringing. She is very old now and still determined to take her denials on to the grave.

I wrote my own understanding into a short type of book and the text is on this link here below;

www.DocumentsSite.BraveHost.com

I have tried to write an autobiography about my twisted family but I just can not seem to do it, and my twisted relatives are happy that I can not do it. My family does not want recovery as they only want to hide and to deny.

You have already made it past the first and hardest step by getting started so it is all uphill now.

I just thought that up-hill is harder then downhill but uphill is still the only way to go. "
