ABNORMALITY ON CHEST X-RAY
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
My father-in-law who has decompensated cirrhosis and end stage renal failure just had a chest x-ray that showed an abnormality. They are sending him for a CT scan and then to a pulmonologist. I know his ascites was creeping into his lungs, but they said they would watch it "closely" because it was too risky to drain the fluid from his lungs in his poor health. His last chest x-ray was April 13 prior to this past on July 16. Also, he has been coughing up a storm for the past 5 weeks and all his doctors wrote it off as "allergies".

Anyone else have this same issue?

" My husband's echo {cardiogram] turned up abnormal today. Doctor referred him to a pulmonary specialist due to fluid in lungs and mitral vakve prolapse.

It could be that he needs his lasix upped due to ascites backup into lung tissues, and/or see if he's getting blood backed up into his heart due to what dr says, a mitral valve prolapse (his heart).

Maybe you should ask for a echo to be done on him.

My husband has been coughing up thick yellow mucous here and there... especially when he first wakes in AM. Walking at the mall produces coughing and hard breathing.

Hope this input helps you "

" He was told in December that he started to have fluid collecting in his right lung and was probably from the ascites in his belly moving up into the lung. He also had cardiomegaly (enlarged heart). His liver doctor advised that because of the sensitive nature of his condition, it would be best not to have the chest drained and that they would watch it closely. Well, after 2 1/2 months of a cough and us complaining to the local doctors, it took the transplant team to find an abnormality. They knew about the fluid, and told us it definitely was not fluid causing the opacity. He has his CT scheduled for 8/25, along with some lab work and also a pulmonary consult. Hopefully, we will have more answers then.

Thanks for your response and your input. Hope your husband gets good news from the pulmonologist. "
