Hey everybody! I am not too new to the site, but fairly new to the board. I read the discussions everyday and have decided today will be my posting day. I have had endometriosis since I was 14 and am fairly newly diagnosed with Crohn's disease as of a little over two years ago. I went into Crohn's remission shortly thereafter for two years and since August of this year I have been in a terrible prolonged flare up. I am taking awful medications that have side effects I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy (prednisone makes me gain weight and I now have a moon face...). I am in a lot of pain from both diseases and recently my Crohn's has began to manifest itself in my lower spine. My heat pad just does not do it for me. My doctor prescribed me Darvocet for pain, but it doesn't help. It barely takes the edge off. Considering I can't take ibuprofen to help with inflammation,d oes anybody have any suggestions for my back pain? Anything that can help enhance the Darvocet...other than a heating pad. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you all havea great, pain free weekend!

" Hi there! I'm a believer in Lidoderm patches. When pain medicine just isn't enough, these little pads do the rest of the job.

If you have good insurance, I know of another product that is even better so let me know! "

" Sorry your in so much pain. I dont think darvocet is good. I took that before and it had me feeling funny. It made my arms and legs go numb. I think you should tell your doctor wats going on and ask for something else. dont ask for tramadol that another form of tylenol. dont work at all. get something like vicodin, onxycodne.you might just need something strong. If he dont give it to you. I suggest a pain doctor. sorry its so long. Hope you get the help u need. "

" different pain drugs work differently on your body. so if one doesn't work you should be telling your doc that you need something different. Sometimes it isn't something stronger but just a different type or "class" of drug.

I have good luck with Hydrocodone. (sp?) This one is an opiate. I think Tramadol is a synthetic narcotic. You might have luck with either. I have had good luck with Tramadol at one time as well.

It does sound like it is time to change your pain drug. For your own sanity...make sure to communicate with your doctor. :)

My best! -opy "

" do you how long you will be in pain? if you are going to be in pain for awhile doctors dont like giving short acting meds like vicoden and certain opiates, so if it is going to be awhile ask for something long term.

I was on darvocet a long time ago and they say it isnt addictive as opiates, but it can be.
so i am sure the doctor doesnt want to give you something that may cause that. so you should have a talk with him, doctors especially dont like giving younger people anything for pain, why i dont know pain is pain in my book "

" in terms of enhancing the effects of the darvocet, i have read from time to time where people have suggested that grapefruit juice can inhance the 'strength'...i agree that if this is going to be something that you are dealing with long term, a med review and change may be in order. i think the next step up would be the hydro...good luck! " Oh yeah, these are chronic conditions and unfortunately due to the crohn's causing RA, I will be in pain longer....I've dealt with pain everyday since I was 14 unfortunately and have tried every pain med under the sun haha. I am allergic to codeine so Vicodin and the likes don't have an effect on me other than rashes, which is unfortunate because it does help with the pain. I hate tramadol, it gives me such an awful headache! I think once I had success with Lortab, but that has codeine in it if I remember correctly and that's why I haven't taken it in years unfortunately. Thank you for the replies!
Grapefruit juice? Hm, I do love that stuff I may have to try it!! Yeah my heatpad just won't cut it for me anymore. I am thinking of going to the local massage school. It's 30 bucks for an hour long massage, which would be nice!! I don't have health insurance so most treatments are costly, especially since I have been in and out of the ER for months now :( "
