Hi. I was just wondering the best place to put a patch? I have been putting them on my arm, but I was wondering if there was a better place. Thanks! Krista

I've never put mine on my arm. My dr said to either put it on my chest or back, but as my chest has lots of scars from skin cancer I put mine on my upper back. Each time I move it from the left to the right. That way if no one's around I can still put them on myself, but I prefer that someone do it. I have found that after a year of using them, they no longer want to stick, so my pharmatist is looking into a different brand.
As a word of caution, I was placing a large patch on top of them to keep it in place. The pharacists told me don't do this as they need to be able to breathe, you can use tape around all the edges if it starts to peel. Hope this helps. dee

My doc told me that putting it on the upper arm or chest is a good place, but that if you're having a problem getting it to stick, try any place (healthy skin of course).
For the few years I've been using it I've run the gamut of experimenting from lower back/hip, thigh, ankle to around my collar bone. I began using those little alcohol pads to wash the area right before placing it on, and it seems to really do the trick of getting it to stick for 3 days.

Yikes, please dont use heat on them and dont prep the area with alcohol. It causes too much medication to enter your system at an increased rate. That is very dangerous and there are warnings against that on the information that comes with the patch. Back to your question about where to put them, it is recomended to put them on the upper arms, chest, thighs, belly,or your back. And rotate sights so you dont get skin irritations. I personally never found a good spot for the darn things and they always fell off even when I would tape around them. I did find that they stayed on better if someone else put them on for me though. Good luck and feel better!

I found the arm is the best place. They don't seen to chaff there. I put them on the outside of my arm a few inches below the shoulder. My mother who is less active puts them on her stomach. Eric

I like them best on my back but since I change them every 48hours and wear 2 of them sometimes I will switch and put them on my upper legs and they work well there too. Also I can change them myself. Not a lot of bending there to where they want to come off like other spots.
I read where some are having problems with their patches sticking or staying on, I also had the same problem and consulted my neuro nurse and well there is a 800 number on your Duragesic box, all you have to do is call them and they will sent you overlays for them for free. I tried all kinds of tape and it would come off as well eventually. Well now you have to send them a copy of the script or the sticker from your box (i just cut the section off one of the boxes) for proof and strength and then they will send you out a 3 month supply at a time. It is fast, easy and free!! All the applying stuff is a pain but it beats being in major pain!! :) I will take bearable anyday! Hope this helps some, All the best!
