Hey guys....it's been a while since I've posted alot. However, I was wondering what dosages some of you were on and how quickly you built up a tolerance to oxycodone and the dosage had to be increased.
I'm currently on 40 mg oxycontin three times a day, with 30mg oxycodone for breakthrough. That has worked wonders for several months, but it feels like it's not as effective now as it was it the beginning and I'm wondering if I'm building a tolerance to it. I'm not happy about possibly increasing the dosage b/c this sounds like so much now and I want to take as little as possible. Yet, it's not dulling the pain as good as it once did. I believe that after several months it is very likely that you can build up a tolerance. I know it seems like so much...but even a slight increase may help. I know that when they put me on a time release med, and a bit higher does of my other pk, it worked wonders. It was like night and day. I hated to go to that, but my life changed completely at the time. Just some thoughts, I hope you feel better!

hey, sspires
Maybe have your doc throw something new in the mix, just to give your system something that will stimulate it and make the oxy work better and longer so you dont have to take so much and still get the effectiveness that you want. I know people who will switch their meds completely every few months, just so that the meds that did work at one time will work again, after having a break form it, it might be worth to consider if you dont want to up your dosage take care

Just wondering...do you take generic or name brand? Believe me, it makes a difference. It used to be that the pharmacy had to ask you if you would like to try generic, now...they automatically give you generic UNLESS your doctor writes "NAME BRAND ONLY" on the script. The medication in generics only has to be 80% as strong as the brand name itself so it does make a difference to get brand name. Next time you get your scripts, ask your doc to write name brand only on them and see if makes a difference for you (it did for both my husband and myself and we both take oxy and percocet). You have to pay more than the usual co-pay if this isn't specified on the script as well (insurance companies want you to get generics). We were in the same boat as you, we didn't want to bump up to more meds but needed more relief. Hope this helps. xoxoLyn

Hi sspires i started out on 10mg 3 times a day and now am up to 60mg 3 times a day. I have found as my tolerance has gon up ive needed more to make the same pain killing effect.
i sometimes get a generic brand from my chemist and i must say the name brand tends to work better. I thought it was in my head but after reading a few of these posts it oviousley does make a differance. it will be name brand for me from now on.

Hi,
Where I am at you can no longer get generic Oxycontin extended release. Up until 3 months ago I could but now you have to get the brand name. The pharmacist and my Doc told me the drug companies are not making Generic Oxy ER anymore. I also read a news story that the generic brand was being phased out due to some law suit Perdue won. However the pharmacy and docs give out discount cards that save you 50.00 for your first 5 scripts on the brand name. When I switched from generic to name brand there was a difference for me. I had better pain control with the name brand than I did with the generic. Madsy
